Chapter 60 - I'm your nemesis

"Sis, stop complaining. Since we got work, we have to do it," said the young man while looking at his younger sister.

"Yeah… yeah…" the young lady said while rolling her eyes at her elder brother.

"Here, these are the coordinates and the picture of the target," said the shadow guard while extending his hand, which was holding the slip with the coordinates and Kael's picture.

The young lady reached out her hand to take the slip and picture, but her face turned weird when she looked at Kael's picture and asked, "Which dumbass drew this? Even a first grader could draw a better picture."

"Ahem…" The shadow guard cleared his throat, a blush forming on his face.

Seeing the awkwardness around them, the young man immediately interrupted the conversation between his younger sister and the shadow guard. "Okay, okay, Brother Shadow Guard has important matters to attend to," said the young man while winking at his sister.

"Yeah… yeah… I will take my leave," the shadow guard hurriedly disappeared into the shadows, as if running away from that place.

The young man turned to look at the picture and nearly fell to the floor. "His drawing really sucks," said the young man while controlling himself from laughing loudly.

"Sis, arrange everything. Since we got the work, the target is going to be very hard to deal with. We have to finish this work carefully and cautiously," said the young man with a stern gaze on his face.

"Hmm," the young lady nodded her head, her gaze turning stern.

Meanwhile, at the temporary base…

A little guy kept peeking at Kael from outside the room. He hesitated for a moment and came close to the door but immediately moved aside and peeked inside the room. Kael shook his head while looking at the kid's behavior.

He raised his hand and gestured for the kid to enter. The kid nodded his head and slowly walked inside. "Tell me, what happened?"

"My friends… who went… to get water… for the tank haven't returned yet," said the kid in a stuttering voice.

"Haven't returned?" Kael furrowed his brows.

"Hmm," the kid nodded his head.

"I cleared all the zombies on the way to the lake, right?" Kael murmured inwardly with a stern gaze on his face, but suddenly he thought of something and widened his eyes. "Yeah, how did I forget about it? There is a creature that is more dangerous than zombies: humans."

Kael stood up from the chair. "If anyone asks about me, tell them I'm going out to deal with an important matter," he said while looking at the kid. He moved towards the window and jumped out of it. The kid ran to the window and looked out with widened eyes.

"Mini scanner, scan for life signs," Kael asked while moving towards the lake at full speed.

After a few minutes, he heard the alert from the mini scanner.

[Ten life signs are found.]

Kael lowered his head to look at the mini scanner and moved in the direction the life signs indicated.

Meanwhile…

"Kids, tell us where your base is," asked the young man with a hideous look on his face.

"Boss will be at the base, right? Let's tell the coordinates of our temporary base," said one of the kids with a fearful look on his face.

"No, wait. What if the boss is not at the base?" asked another kid while holding that kid's hand with a stern gaze on his face.

The first kid hesitated for a moment, nodded his head, and sat back down on the ground.

"Haven't you all heard what I said? Tell me where your base is if you don't want to die," asked the young man while pointing his bloody butcher knife at the kids.

The kids shook violently, fear filling their eyes, but one frowned and said while looking at the young man, "Bro, let me give you a piece of advice. You just don't know who you are messing with. If you cherish your life and your teammates, you better release us and run as far as possible. There is a chance you all will survive and keep your pathetic lives."

Bang…

Puff…

The young man kicked the kid, who crashed to the ground and coughed up a few mouthfuls of blood onto the mud.

The kid raised his head and looked at the young man hatefully. "Who do you think you are, kid? If not for needing to know the location of your base, you would have become a dish on my plate," said the young man with a sinister look on his face.

"You will pay ten times, no, a hundred times more for every drop of blood that I spilled right now," said the kid with an angry glare on his childish face.

"Hmph, I just need one of you to stay alive to know the location of your base, so you can go and die," said the young man while showing his black rotten teeth with a starving look on his face.

Swoosh…

He thought he slashed the kid, and the kid thought that he was dead, but both of them widened their eyes when they saw Kael standing in front of them.

He held the knife so tightly with his fingers that no matter how hard the young man tried to pull the butcher knife, he couldn't pull it out of Kael's fingers.

Kael yawned lazily, turned to the kid, showed him a thumbs-up, and said, "Kid, I like you." Then he turned to the young man and asked while closing his nose, "How many days has it been since you last brushed?"

"Who are you, bastard? Don't meddle in others' business. I'm giving you a chance to live. Get the fuck out of here or die right away at my hands," asked the young man while gnashing his teeth in anger.

"Oh, you're giving me a chance to live?" Kael looked at the young man and slightly moved his fingers.

Crack…

The butcher knife cracked, and pieces slowly fell down. The young man widened his eyes so much that they nearly popped out of his eye sockets.

"Now I want to know, who is eligible to say the phrase 'I'm giving you a chance to live'?" asked Kael while looking at the young man.

"You… you… variant… you are a variant," exclaimed the young man, fear filling his eyes.

"I'm your nemesis," said Kael while looking at the young man and holding his hand tightly.
