THE SYSTEM I MADE
Chapter 28
"The Arrival of the Grandmaster star mage"
Lucien raised his hand, creating a shimmering barrier around Lara.
"Light Magic: Luminous Veil," he intoned, the spell forming a protective dome of radiant light around her.
"Stay in there," Lucien instructed, his tone firm.
Lara's eyes widened with concern. "Are you going to face that monster alone? The Elder Centipede King is way stronger than the one Kaidën is currently fighting."
Lucien nodded, his expression resolute. "I know. But Kaidën will come back. He's a Grandmaster, after all. If I can't slay the monster, I'll stall for time until he returns. Our chances of victory are much higher with him here."
Lara's distress subsided slightly at his words. "I'm surprised to hear you say such things."
Lucien's gaze hardened. "Forget I said that," he replied brusquely. He stepped away from the veil, drawing the Elder Centipede King's attention. The creature's eyes locked onto him, and it began to move.
As he moved away from the veil he starts by shooting light magical balls at the Elder centipede king but his magical spells did not harm it, even though he shoots multiple light magical balls at it,it did not even leave a single stretch.
"As I thought, it's exoskeleton is much tougher than I thought" he thought.
As he continued releasing relentless light magic balls at it, though it was attacked it's movement was not slowed because of the attacks it did not even stopped moving towards his direction, it went straight to him , the only thing it thought was to annihilate it's threat.
In his mind, Lucien considered his options. He had already tried attacking the creature with light magic, but its exoskeleton was impervious to his spells. His eyes darted to the centipede's glowing red eyes.
"That's its vulnerable spot," he realized.
"Light Magic: Solar Flare!" Lucien cast a spell that produced an intense, blinding light.
The Elder Centipede King hissed in agony, its eyes overwhelmed by the brightness. It quickly burrowed underground to escape the light.
"Damn it, so it can even hide underground! That coward of a boss monster," Lucien muttered, frustration evident in his voice.
Suddenly, the ground beneath him began to crack. The centipede erupted from below, lifting Lucien high into the air. He swiftly twisted his body, landing on the creature's back. The impact was jarring, but he managed to hold on, gripping the centipede's exoskeleton to stop himself from falling further.
---
the councilors watched Lucien's struggle on a large, magical screen.
"An Expert (E) student taking on a boss monster alone," Councilor Elara Winters remarked, her tone filled with admiration. "Impressive, but he's beginning to struggle."
Principal Thaddeus Hawke nodded thoughtfully. "Lucien has potential, but this fight is pushing him to his limits. We need to see how he handles this situation."
Councilor Gideon Ashcroft leaned forward, his eyes narrowing as he watched Lucien on the screen. "He has guts, that's for sure. But bravery alone won't be enough to defeat the Elder Centipede King. He needs to be strategic."
Councilor Lysandra Voss added, "His light magic is powerful, but he needs to find a way to exploit the creature's weaknesses effectively."
Councilor Roderick Stormrider watched silently, his expression unreadable. Finally, he spoke. "If Lucien can hold out long enough for Kaidën to return, they might stand a chance. But alone... it's a tall order."
The councilors continued to watch intently, aware that Lucien's performance would be a crucial test of his abilities and potential as a future leader among mages.
-----
Lucien clung to the Elder Centipede King's exoskeleton, feeling the creature's movements ripple beneath him. He steadied himself and took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart.
The centipede twisted violently, trying to shake Lucien off, but he held on tightly.
"I need to stay focused," he thought.
"Its eyes are the key."
With a swift motion, Lucien raised his hand, casting another spell.
"Light Magic: Blades of Judgement!"
Several swords of pure light appeared around him and shot towards the centipede's eyes. The creature roared in pain as a few of the blades struck true, piercing its vulnerable spots.
The centipede thrashed even more violently, forcing Lucien to grip tighter.
"This isn't enough," he realized.
"I need to do more damage."
Summoning his strength, Lucien leaped from the centipede's back, landing a few meters away. He quickly assessed the situation. The centipede was momentarily disoriented, but it would recover soon. He needed to act fast.
"Light Magic: Radiant Chains!" he shouted, sending glowing chains of light to bind the centipede's legs and segments. The creature struggled against the bonds, but the chains held firm, at least for the moment.
Lucien glanced over his shoulder at Lara, still safe within the Luminous Veil.
"Just a little longer," he muttered to himself. "I need to hold out just a little longer."
The centipede's struggle grew more intense, its sheer strength beginning to overpower the chains. Lucien knew he had to keep the pressure on. He began channeling more energy, readying another powerful spell.
"Light Magic: Glare of Dawn!" he cried, sending a blinding beam of light directly at the centipede's face. The creature shrieked and recoiled, its eyes burning from the intense light.
But the Elder Centipede King was relentless. Despite the damage, it lunged at Lucien with terrifying speed. He barely had time to react, diving to the side to avoid being crushed by the massive beast.
Panting heavily, Lucien got back to his feet, determination burning in his eyes.
"I can't let it end like this. I have to find a way to weaken it further."
The centipede turned its attention back to Lucien, its eyes glowing with rage. It lunged again, but this time Lucien was ready. He dodged the attack and countered with a powerful blast of light magic aimed at the creature's eyes.
The centipede shrieked in agony, rearing back. Lucien took the opportunity to prepare his next move, drawing more power from within. He knew he couldn't keep this up forever; he needed to find a way to land a decisive blow.
As the centipede recovered and prepared for another attack, Lucien's mind raced.
"There has to be a way to exploit its weakness even more. I need to find it."
Just as the centipede lunged again, Lucien unleashed another spell, his determination unwavering.
"Light Magic: Holy Nova!" A massive explosion of light erupted from him, enveloping the centipede in a blinding, searing radiance.
The creature roared in pain, thrashing wildly. Lucien struggled to hold on, his grip slipping as the centipede king's violent movements intensified. The exoskeleton's ridges dug into his palms, and despite his best efforts, he was finally thrown off, crashing into the chamber wall.
Gasping for breath, Lucien pushed himself up, but his body protested. His legs wobbled, and his vision blurred. The elder centipede king, sensing his weakened state, advanced menacingly, its mandibles clicking with anticipation.
"Not like this," Lucien muttered, his determination waning as the monster loomed over him. He tried to summon another spell, but his magical energy was nearly depleted. The light flickered feebly in his hands before fading.
The centipede king reared up, ready to deliver the final blow. Lucien closed his eyes, bracing himself for the impact.
A sudden burst of light filled the chamber, accompanied by a powerful, commanding voice.
"Star magic: Celestial Burst!"
The room exploded with radiant energy, and the elder centipede king was thrown back, screeching in pain. Lucien's eyes snapped open to see Kaidën standing at the entrance, his hand glowing with the residual energy of his spell.
"Kaidën..." Lucien breathed, relief washing over him.
When Kaidën entered the chamber, Lucien let a small smile escape. "Took you long enough."
Kaidën returned the smile, nodding approvingly. "You did well to hold it off, and I gave the mini boss a good beating on top of that" He gestured to the blood-soaked floor, where the matriarch centipede's lifeless body lay sprawled, it's exoskeleton shattered and it's many legs twisted in death.
"Guess I owe you one." Lucien's smile widened, despite, despite his exhaustion.
"You should go to Lara and ask her to heal you, in the meantime I'll deal with the monster myself, if you don't hurry then I might as well kill this guy alone" he said letting out an unusual smirk.
"And try not to die when you fight that monster, because you can't defeat it without my help" Lucien said.
"You don't have to worry about me, the only one I'm concerned of is you- who nearly got his ass handed to him by that big fellow over there" Kaidën said jokingly pointing at the Elder centipede king.
"Shut up" Lucien said irritated as he stood up and going to were Lara is.
"So this is the elder centipede king, huh, the dungeon boss, you were able to withstand my magic just now, let's see how long can that armor of yours last" he said as his entire body glowed with golden energy, his magical power unleashing.
