Mr. Mathew is a billionaire who gets what he wants anytime. He spends most of lives chasing women around and sleeping with them. Until now, he hasn't thought about the future of his company, who will succeed it when he is no more.
He sat in his office thinking of what had happened previously at the hospital. The mistake doctor Sandro made. Where will he see Clara now? Everything is beginning to down on him. Suddenly a woman entered his office.
"Hey, sweet boy," says the young woman, walking towards Mr. Mathew and chewing gum.
"Don't you know how to knock?" Mr. Mathew quickly stopped her. "Where are your manners?" He asked.
The lady was Rose, she paused for a bit, her mouth half open, "Manners, indeed."
"Where the hell have you been? I have been calling you but no response," Mr. Mathew yelled at her.
"Oh sorry, my battery went flat," Rose apologized to him.
"I have told you how important this is to me. Do you think I was joking? If I wanted any random sex to have a child, I'd have told you!" says Mr. Mathew
Outside the office, the secretary was listening to their conversation, she winced as she heard her boss, Mr. Mathew, speak harshly to the woman. She wanted to go in and submit the file in her hands, but she stayed still. The woman he was talking to could take it.
Rose, Mathew's slut who sexually satisfies him whenever he needs to fulfill his desires, has been moving around, feeling proud of herself. She became more excited after Mathew told her he wanted her to be his surrogate mother for his child. She even thought this would make Mathew marry her in the long run. She was having the notion of being 'the wife,' the one who would give him the heir to his company. This made Rose to be frequent in the office, treating the workers like slaves.
The secretary had heard the other workers talking about it as well. Rose wants Mr. Mathew all to herself. A lot of women wanted Mathew, but then he was that kind of guy. He was the handsome, downright sexy, dirty, hot millionaire. He was a total bastard.
"You can't just shout at me, Mr. Mathew," says Rose. "It wasn't my fault, you should vent your anger on the doctor who made the mistake, not me," Rose said, storming out of the office.
Staring at her computer screen, Rose did her best to ignore the woman who was
the latest in a long line of women running out of the office looking embarrassed. She noticed the sudden change in her boss. He seemed to be reacting more with anger than he usually does. There was a gap of silence in the office as Rose left the building. Biting her lip, the secretary continued to type the last batch of letters that Mr. Mathew asked her to type.
Meanwhile, Clara got home and went straight to the kitchen. She was feeling hungrier than ever. Her mother was in the sitting room watching the news when Clara came in.
"Clara, is that you?" She asks. "How did it go with the check-up," her mother inquired.
"Fine, mom," Clara answered with a loud voice from the kitchen. Clara was trying to toast bread as she walked over to the electric kettle to pour some hot water and make a coffee.
Clara suddenly remembered she needed to attend the interview she had with SOMEDAY NEWSPAPER COMPANY. She has always dreamed of becoming a reporter since her childhood days. She hurriedly took the toast and drank some coffee without hesitation. Clara quickly rushed to her room to change her dress and get prepared for the interview.
"Clara, what's going on?" Her mother asks, looking confused as she sees her daughter in a hurry.
"Mum, I almost forget. I have an interview today?" Clara answered from afar, her voice barely audible.
Mrs. Jennifer could not hear clearly what her daughter was saying and so, she just shrugged off her shoulder and continued watching the news.
Clara hurriedly steps out of the room, almost hitting her brother, Santos.
"Hey, watch it," he yelled.
"Sorry, excuse me out of the way bro," says Clara.
"Where the hell are you going, Clara?" He asked again.
"Interview," Clara's voice echoed in the air as she banged the door behind her.
Back at Mr. Mathew's office.
"Mary, I need you in here right now." Mr. Mathew yelled from his office to his secretary.
The secretary jumped up as fast as she could immediately she heard her boss calling for her. She quickly got out of her seat and made her way toward the office door.
"Yes, sir," Mary answered immediately she entered the office, looking terrified.
"Why didn't you inform me that Rose was coming to my office?" Mathew ask.
"Rose?" Mary asks, her face looking confused.
"Yes, Rose. Are you deaf or something," Mathew reacted angrily.
"Why was she in my office without anyone informing me?"
Mary jerked back. "I really don't know when she came in Sir. Is She, not your girlfriend." Mary asks looking confused.
"Girlfriend? Mary, are you tired of your job? Do you wish to be fired?" Mathew asks looking at her with a red eyes.
"No Sir," Mary apologize.
Mathew leans back in his chair. The suit he'd worn that morning, was immediately removed, dropping it on the floor. Mary bent down and picked up the suit and folded it neatly before
placing it on the sofa in the far corner of the office.
"I don't understand. Where is the receptionist?" Mathew ask.
"She didn't come around today, you gave her maternity leave two days ago, Sir," says Mary.
"Oh, I see. I must have forgotten." Mathew groaned, robbing his forehead.
"I expected to be notified anytime she is around," he added.
"But there is no receptionist to do that," says Mary.
Suddenly, a loud knock on the door interrupted their conversation.
"Yes come in," Mathew commanded.
Clara walked in looking around the office until her eyes met Mr. Mathew. She didn't know he was the CEO. All she thought was is that he could possibly be the HR manager.
"Good morning sir," Clara greeted.
"Morning, what can I do for you?" Mathew ask.
"I am here for the interview," says Clara.
Mathew turned and looked at his secretary, "Did we make a public notice looking to hire people?" He asked.
The secretary nodded her head, looking away from his gaze. She knew Mr. Mathew was going through a lot.
Mathew turns back to Clara. Okay, have a seat. And Clara sat nervously on the chair. The secretary stood by the other side of the office observing everything.
"So, what position are you applying for?" Mathew asked
"I am here to apply as an intern," says Clara.
"Well," Mathew leaned back in his chair. "We currently aren't hiring interns now," says Mathew.
Mary cleared her voice, drawing her boss's attention. Mathew at first couldn't decide what she meant by that but he eventually did.
"Oh, by the way, why don't you start as our receptionist," He said expecting a yes for an answer from Clara.
"Well, Sir, I am only here to apply for the internship not as a receptionist..." Clara replied.
"$7,000 every month," says Mathew.
"Excuse me?" Clara asked.
"I will pay you $7,000 every month. That's not all, if your attitude to work is excellent and professional, you get to earn a promotion into the news production team.
Clara became speechless, the sound of that money made her stomach grunt. She could not believe her ears.
"I will take it," says Clara without hesitation.
"Good. Mary, take her in and give her appointment letter," says Mathew pointing to Mary who was standing at the far corner of the office.
"That's it?" Clara ask.
"Yes, that's it." Mathew reply.
Clara walked out of the office feeling happy. She was thanking her stars but unfortunately for her, she didn't know her fate was about to change.
Mathew put his hands behind his head, assessing her. The one thing about Mathew was the fact he was a closed book. No one knew what he was thinking, or what he was feeling, and most of the time, you only found out seconds before he struck.
Mary was about to walk out behind Clara when Mathew called her back.
"Mary." He called back his secretary.
She turned and answered, "Yes Sir,"
"What do you think of this lady," he asked.
"Well, I think she will come in hand for now, since the receptionist isn't available," Mary answered.
"Well, she's done and served her time," says Mathew.
"Is there anything you want from me again Sir?" Mary asked.
He stared at her. "What were you doing?"
"Typing up the letters you wanted so that you could sign them," she replied.
"Good. You're such a good worker for, Mary." He compliments her.
Mary had gotten the secretary job by accident. Five years ago she had been working for Matthew's company as a receptionist at the front desk. She had never known anything about the man himself. He didn't believe in putting his face on his logo, or by being advertised everywhere. She'd heard he liked to date beautiful women, models, actresses, and such. Still, she was completely oblivious to who he was. Then one morning, a man approached the desk, and he was nice, and kind, and she talked him through where to go, even escorting him upstairs.
Mary wasn't the kind of person to do things by halves. She had learned as much
about the company as possible, though still without seeing the picture of the Man
who ran the company. Within the first four months of her working there she
encountered Mathew. Of course on the day she hadn't known it was him.
Then one day she was called into the office, and lo and behold, the man she'd
tried to help was in fact the boss-man himself.
"I'm sure you weren't expecting me," he said.
"No." She said the word slowly. Glancing around the office, she saw everyone just
working normally.
"I don't get it." I was on my way into the office when you stopped me. Instead of
questioning me, gushing about who I was, you simply asked if you could help me," says Mathew. "I was intrigued, and imagine my surprise to learn that you knew more about the
company than my very PA."
That was how Mary got the secretary job to Mr. Mathew.
Mary sat in her chair while Clara sat in front of her. She collected her documents and filed them. Asking her a few questions before showing her around the company and to her duty post.
Clara begins her job immediately without hesitation. Mary went back to her desk and took Clara's file to Mr. Mathew. She dropped the file in front of him but he didn't bother to look at it. He was readying to go out for a brief business meeting. Standing up, Mathew's eyes caught the attention of a name that rings familiarity in his head. He quickly freezes and glances at the file, opening it hurriedly.
The name, 'Clara Rodriguez' was boldly written on the Curriculum vitae. Mathew's eyes widened in shock, he was taken aback by what he had just seen but wasn't sure if it was the person behind the name.
Mary was confused at the sudden reaction of Mr. Mathew.
"Is there anything wrong sir?" The secretary asks.
"Uhmm, where is the lady?" He asked.
"She has already started working. She is at the reception desk." Says Mary.
"I need to see her now," Mathew says, his voice trembling.
Mary stood there looking at Mr. Mathew with confused eyes.
"I said to call her for me, now," Mathew yelled, dropping his suite.
"Okay, Sir," says Mary as she hurriedly left the office.
Mathew felt unease. He could feel some internal heat and a sweat breaking on his forehead.
Mary hurriedly walk downstairs to call Clara. She met her staring at the computer in front of her and loudly call out her name.
"Clara," Mary calls her.
Clara was startled, as she quickly stood on her feet like a soldier ready for a war.
"Yes, Ma'am," Clara answered.
"The boss wants to see you, now" says Mary.
Clara was a bit skeptical. She was confused and curious, did something happen. Will she be fired just few minutes from starting her work? That will be a record she doesn't want to set for herself.
"I said now," Mary yelled at her, startling Clara.
Clara hurriedly followed Mary behind and they walked straight into the elevator.
Mathew could not settle down, he tried to call the doctor but he wasn't reachable. Doctor Sandro had switched off his phone.
Mary and Clara entered the office unannounced.
"Here is she, Sir," said Mary.
Mathew sharply turns and looks at them, "Are you Clara Rodríguez?" He asked her.
"Yes Sir, I am," answered Clara.
"Mary, leave us," says Mathew.
Mary walked out of the office, shutting the door behind her. Mathew quickly sat in his chair, focusing on the file in front of him.
"So, Miss. Clara," Mathew begins. "I want to ask you few questions, I hope you don't mind?" He asked her.
Clara is beginning to feel unease about everything. She begins to think if she will be fired or what. Or was she been interview again. Maybe this time she may not get the job.
Clara raised her head and answered, "Yes, Sir. Please go ahead."
"Okay, where do you live?" Mathew ask.
"I live at no 234 off Marcus street," she answered.
"Do you have any disability or any illness?" Mathew asks cautiously.
"No," Clara answered.
"Please think again," Mathew pleaded.
"Uhmm.." Clara was trying to think hard now. "I don't think I have any disability or any illness..." Says Clara.
Mr. Mathew sighed heavily and leaned back in his chair when suddenly, Clara said something that hit him like thunder.
