With essentially all of the allied forces troops now marching east and west, the only ones left in the capital were the kings reserves. In other words, people that had been given a special title by King Edmund. These people, in essence were ordinary, except for the fact they possessed a mana core level of at least Ascent to King realm.
Now what makes these people special? The fact they chose to live an ordinary life despite this.
These people were only in the army for one reason, riches. They couldn't be compared to normal mercenaries who would flip sides depending on who was winning or who paid the most. These people were human through and through, and proud to be human no less. Yet, they would not fight for the cause unless there was something they could obtain in return.
After all, these were citizens who had to leave their remedial jobs to join the army, remedial jobs that provided for their families that they had left behind.
