Chapter 1 - Cursed Eye

Their swords clashed repeatedly, but the God of War overpowered the Supreme Demon Lord this time, pushing him into the Underworld's Gate.

Struggling, the Supreme Demon Lord shouted, "How could you do this to her?!" He asked the God of War with desperation.

He knew he was losing. The Tian War was about to end, and the Supreme Demon Lord was losing. But his bitter heart wanted answers.

"If you try to steal what is mine, should I not do everything in my power to take it back?" The God of War sternly asked as he slipped the Supreme Demon Lord's sword from his grip, piercing his bitter heart for good.

The Supreme Demon Lord helplessly bled and looked at the God of War with sorrow, regret, and pity, "If she was yours, why did she run from you?"

The God of War frowned, pulling his sword out of the Supreme Demon Lord's heart while pushing him back, throwing him to the Underworld to seal him for good.

"You don't know anything about us!" The God of War shouted, "I loved her!" He grinned, looking down at the fallen Supreme Demon Lord, "Second Brother managed to save her, you know that?" He laughed eerily, "After dealing with you, I'll go back and claim her!"

The Supreme Demon Lord's eyes widened as the silhouette of the God of War started to vanish. His tears left his eyes in an attempt to defy gravity and reach the surface. The walls of the Underworld pushed him down the more he wanted to return up. Alas, he fell into the bottomless pit of the Underworld without being able to do anything about her.

That day, the Supreme Demon Lord's sealed consciousness vowed to return to the Mortal Realm and protect the woman he loved the most - Xiao Hua.

'What comes after death?' Weisheng's inner monologue spoke as he tried to grasp the situation around him. His eyes opened slightly, fanning out to a dark hospital room.

His eyes could hardly see anything. He could feel someone's long, dark hair touching his face. He squinted, trying to see who was on top of him. A woman smiled at him, tracing his sharp features. Was this a dream?

Weisheng tried to take a look at her face. His eyes widened as he made her face out. Her pitch-black eyes stared into his eyes while bleeding. Even the cornea was black! Her skin was rotting apart, and her blood vessels were all protruding. Weisheng tried to scream, but his body failed to move. Was this sleep paralysis? He tried to move, but the woman held him tightly, lowering herself toward his face. A creepy ghost woman was about to make out with him! Impossible!

"Do something!" Weisheng heard his mother shout in a pleading tone.

Weisheng raised his face, squinting to see where his mother was. Suddenly, a zither started to play. He could see a faint silhouette of a woman sitting across the room, playing a zither. His eyes widened as he watched the colorful notes of the music fanning around the room. Since when could he see music?

Suddenly, the creepy ghost lady on top of him disappeared into thin air. His eyes started aching right after, so he clenched them shut.

"What is wrong with him?!" He could hear his mother complain.

"Unfortunately, he might have the Cursed Eye," Another voice replied. It was a soothing, calm, and angelic voice. Was this the musician lady?

Weisheng's mother embraced him, "What is the Cursed Eye?!"

The woman replied with an explanation, but Weisheng failed to make it out as his consciousness slowly faded out.

Weisheng regained consciousness to the voice of a doctor. He grunted as his head spun.

"Mr. Yuan," The doctor uttered his name, "Can you hear me?"

Weisheng faintly nodded. He tried to sit up, but his mother pushed him back down.

"Take it easy," His mother murmured, then looked at the doctor, "What's my son's condition?"

The doctor cleared his throat, "Madam Yuan, it was a minor accident. You don't need to worry. Mr. Yuan is only concussed."

Madam Yuan exhaled in relief, "Thank you, Heavens! Thank you!" She pressed her palms together and stared at the ceiling, expressing her gratitude to the Heavens.

The doctor left shortly. Weisheng finally felt stable, so he sat up.

"Mom," Weisheng managed to speak, "What is going on?" He asked wearily.

Madam Yuan dropped her shoulders, "You should be telling me that! Why did you go after a random burglar at night? Do you realize how worried I was?!"

Right. Weisheng finally recalled what happened. A burglar broke into his house to steal the case reports of a big conglomerate. Weisheng chased after him but ended up getting into an accident. The truck that hit him didn't have a licensed plate, so it was most likely pre-planned. Thankfully, he had only lightly struck his head on the pavement.

He clenched his fists shut, "Mom," He smiled, "Don't worry. I'm good." He didn't want his mother worrying about a pre-planned accident.

Madam Yuan sighed in relief, "I'm glad," She brushed his hair, untangling it from between the bandages, "About last night," She murmured.

Weisheng's eyes widened as he recalled the suspicious events of last night. He shuddered in fear when he remembered the creepy woman's face.

"Actually, I'm not even sure what that was about…" Madam Yuan frowned, "I will send someone to explain that to you later this week."

Weisheng narrowed his eyes, "Was that real?" He asked as he gulped.

Madam Yuan looked at him with concern, "I don't know. You screamed in your sleep, and the doctors said it was sleep paralysis. I wanted to be sure, so I hired a Sorceress to deal with it. After her ritual, you slept better."

"A sorceress?" Weisheng scoffed, "Mom, you believe in those quacks?"

"My dear, it is better to be safe than sorry. Besides, her work is authentic. You slept better after her ritual. She mentioned something about the Cursed Eye. I asked her to look into it. She will be back in two or three days. I'm sure she can explain better than me." Madam Yuan explained.

Weisheng sighed and shook his head in disbelief. His mother had always been superstitious. He brushed last night off as a nightmare. There was no way all those things were real. Ghosts didn't exist!

Suddenly, the door of his hospital room burst open, and his superior walked inside.

"Yuan Yuan," Liu Heng muttered, "Did you break your bones or what?"

Madam Yuan frowned, ready to attack the man with her sharp nails. However, Weisheng held her arm lightly, shaking his head.

"No," Weisheng calmly replied, "It's just a concussion."

"Well then, get your ass to work, maybe?" Liu Heng sarcastically uttered, "Bring the case reports while you're at it. And be quick."

With that, Liu Heng casually walked out of the room. Madam Yuan frowned and looked at Weisheng.

"Why didn't you ever tell me that your superiors are such bullies? I will make them pay!" Madam Yuan said furiously.

"Mom, calm down…" Weisheng looked away, "I'm bad at my job. That's why they're like this."

"Weisheng!" Madam Yuan stood up and frowned, "You worked so hard! Stop saying that!"

Weisheng sighed softly. Madam Yuan was a businesswoman, and Weisheng was her only son. She was a single mother. She had raised Weisheng with care and love and pampered him with wealth and status. She even supported his career choice when he decided to become a Prosecutor.

However, Weisheng was unlucky with his social life. Only a few people wanted to associate with him after learning he was the son of one of the most distinguished conglomerates.

He was full of shortcomings, but his mother was still proud of him.

"Don't worry, Mom," Weisheng reassured her for her sake, "I'll do better."
