Chapter 1 - The start

June 9th Tuesday

It's been two months since you came to Osaka. A week ago your latest case came out. Several victims have succumbed to it. 26 to be precise. Most likely they all were dead. There was a pool of blood present at the scene, a fatal amount of it. Hence it is a serial killing case with 26 missing bodies.

Two years since your brother disappeared. He was the very first victim of this case if anything this might bring you closer to the truth. It's better knowing than not knowing. At the very least you could perform ceremonial rites for and if you did happen to find his body. That being said you better wake up now before you are late for school.

Beep beep beep

You smacked your alarm clock. Picking it up you looked at the time. Your eyes widened and you threw your clock onto your bed as you ran towards your bathroom. After practically throwing on your clothes. You started brushing through your hair.

Black long wavy hair and deep black eyes. It made you feel like you were a beautiful raven. But to some, it was a crow. Crows are meant to be smart. So their comments don't bother you at all. Contrary to your looks you weren't a dull, antisocial and cold person.

You were the exact opposite. You took a quick look in the mirror and slipped on your shoes hoping you weren't late for school.

Gyakuten high. An elite school. Only for rich kids and accomplished kids. But now and then students would be accepted through scholarships. It was a boarding school. Schools preferred students stay on campus and mostly they all did.

But you had no whatsoever desire to do that. Living in an unknown area without further investigation.?. It went totally against your family guidelines.

Shoved a toasted bread into your mouth. After giving yourself enough encouragement you ran towards the direction of your school. After several times checking your watch, you were sure you could just make it. It was 8:28 two minutes for school to start.

You managed to get past the school gates just before the bell rang. The security was tight. For no reason at that. There were about four guards at the front entrance and three at the back entrance. It was impossible to get out through the gates. One could always jump a wall though.

You took quick leaps across the school field. It was vastly better than any other school you had ever visited. There was a court for every sport and a separate gymnasium for exercise and PE lessons.

Looking down at your schedule. You tried to find your class but instead, you found a lot of unnecessary brazen things. Like a multiplex theatre, you were currently standing in. The recliners were made of full-grain leather and one could easily be the same amount as the salary of a middle-class working man.

" too posh "You ran your hand along the soft material.

Searching more you found not only do they have a chocolate fountain. But also the game room and cafe. It also had a mini corner to make your food. This was definitely for the rich.

You had enough of it. Just as you were about to turn you almost collided with a boy.

"Sorry," you murmured and looked at the boy noticing his blonde hair and green irises. An immediate recognition occurred on your face. You hid it as quickly as it came.Focusing your eyes on the male before you.

" you are new, aren't you? Let me help you find your class. I am Hikaru " he prompted by giving you a million-dollar smile that made you dizzy but not with happiness or shyness but disgust. His smile was as radiant as it could have been. But it was the same fake smile you do when you are trying to shoo off annoying guests.

Of course, you knew him. He is Hikaru Hisashi son of an Oscar-winning actor. He got all his looks from his father. A face like that could make people melt. The smile that makes your knee go weak. But not yours.

"Asuna, how did you know I was new" You raised your eyebrows as you shook his hand.

" I can identify a damsel in distress when I see one" he again gave you the same smile which you had grown to dislike in the shortest amount of time.

It felt like you were unwelcome. You looked back at the corner where he came from. It was marked under construction.

' why was he there.? What was he doing.?"

After verbally scolding yourself for looking so hard into the incident and the boy's smile you decided to drop it. But something about that hallway sent creeps across your back.

" that is the famous make-out spot. Teachers don't come here. We can go if you want. " he winked at you taking your hand in his.

" I thought you were helping me find a class. You are still doing that right.? " you changed the uncomfortable topic to something more useful to you.

He quickly nodded and you asked him to show you the shortest route to your first class.

He kept his talking to you even though you had no intention to talk back to him. What annoyed you the most was the smile he wore. The smile that never faded. The expression was untrue. Just when you were about to say something reckless.

The golden-haired male paused. Besides him in bold letters on the wall, you saw your first class "GEOGRAPHY"

He stood there as if waiting for being thanked but you narrowed your eyes. " I would thank you if only you bought me through the shortest route possible. You fooled me "

" I am surprised you noticed that given you were too focused on talking to me," he said with a playful smile

Okay, you might have lied. You were totally into talking to him. His smiles might be fake but he was good with words. At least you had interesting company.

He stood there for a few more seconds blocking the entrance to the classroom.

"Thank you," you said heaving a sigh.

At that, the green-eyed male retreated giving you the needed space for the entrance.

"See you in your next class bye for now" he winked again as he rushed past you in a hurry

Looking down on your schedule you saw your next class was English ' so we share a class'

You entered the class but you were met by a flying chalk. You slightly avoided it. Looking up at your weird attacker. She stood there hands folded as she impatiently tapped her fingers.

She wore a tight knee-length skirt and tied her hair up in a neat bun. In her hand was the other half of the thrown chalk.

"How great of you to bring your presence here. " she sneered. " I presume you are Ikari san"

You nodded keeping your eyes trained on the ground so as not to further anger the older female. This worked on your mother. So it would work on her too.

As you imagined the female calmed down and called you up to introduce yourself. Doing as asked. You stepped forward on the elevated platform.

" Asuna Ikari. 17-year-old an avid reader and weeb. Nice to meet you all. " you quickly ended your introduction.

Scanning the class you saw a familiar face. Lily. She was the first person you befriend upon coming to Osaka.

She works part-time in a top-notch restaurant. Which you often visited. She was not as rich as other students here. But her mom had few connections plus she was in a very high position in a company.

You quickly grabbed the seat beside her and smiled at the shock on her warm features. Her eyes were wide open and she couldn't get a single word out.

" didn't I say I would meet you at school," you said smiling cheek to cheek.

" I thought you would sneak in. Not that you got enrolled and accepted since I was on the waiting list for years." the brown-haired female said still processing you being there "How did you get in.?"

"Well, that's a secret I would like to guard" You turned to face the Digi board.

With your grades, there were no issues with you getting into school with a scholarship. But right in the middle of the first term. Surely no school tolerates that unless you give some under the table or have contact with the right people.

Good for you. Your family had both. Being a family member of a famous detective agency has its wonders. It was the only time you were happy you belonged to this family. Most of the time you wished you weren't.

"We better open our textbooks or hana sensei will hang us " lily said as she shivered from the daggers she was shooting and both of you.

But that didn't stop you both from talking. It only encouraged you more. You were quite fond of lily. She was a shy but creative girl. All those paintings she showed you were absolutely marvelous.

Though confidence wasn't her strong suit. That's why you would help her through it all. When or if she decides to go professional.

"Ari San - Ikari San " hana sensei frustratedly called you out. She stood there towering both you and your friend.

" could you please repeat your question sensei" you said standing up from your desk

She frustratedly grumbled something under her breath before repeating the question again.

"Fucking is a village in which country "

"Austria"

"What is an estuary"

" an area where freshwater river meets ocean"

"what ocean is home to marriana trench"

"Pacific ocean"

"What is the oldest volcano on earth"

" mount etna"

"Where -" the bell rang out loudly indicating end of the lecture

" saved by the bell Ikari san" she muttered. Knowing full well it wasn't you who was saved by the bell but her.

She walked back towards her desk to inpects loads of note book waiting to be looked at

" I wonder if we pissed her off lily" you said as you hurriedly shoved books in your bag.

" i'd be surprised if you didn't " the female exclaimed her eyes shone in excitement. " you totally moped her face with your rapid answers.

Lily then helped you navigate through the tedious corridor of the educational establishment. You finally came across your class bidding your friend farewell you entered your next lecture.

English

You sat down on an empty desk got out your assigned book and beginning to read it. It wasn't actually an interesting reading but an intriguing one. This chapter will be coming in next semester but you liked to be ahead.

In between flipping your pages you heard a thump next to you but you ignored it. Instead you focused on the words present on next page.

However the book was taken out of your hands before you could grab it back whomever had taken it put it above their head so you couldn't reach it. You rolled your eyes in frustration looking at who had taken your book.

He had a playful smile that ran along his face and he took his free hand putting it under your chin. Lifting it up and looking into your eyes.

" hey there " he grinned.
