Lilith sat at the seat next to the head of the table waiting for him.
"Could he despise me now after what happened? Is he mad at me?" She thought quietly to herself.
She shifted in her seat several times so uncomfortable and worried.
"Miss, would you like to see the new issue? You've caused quite a stir." A maid said to her.
"Whatever do you mean?" She asked her maid, seemingly confused.
The maid walked out of the dining room coming back moments later with a piece of paper in her hand.
"Here you go, Miss." She said handing the paper over to her.
Lilith skimmed through the issue, turning pale as she read every word.
"Debauchery?" She muttered to herself.
"He did say there'll be some gossip about us. I didn't expect it to be in written form. Which means everyone's seen it and read it too. Is that why he doesn't want to have breakfast with me?'' She thought to herself.
"Miss…" The maid said.
"Yes?"
"May I begin to serve your food?"
"Please just wait a moment."
"Miss…"
"Yes? Do you have something to say?" She said, turning to look at the maid.
"I just wanted to inquire about something."
"And that may be?"
"The issue, is it true? Did those things happen? Were you caught by a stranger in a fierce battle of bodies held close by the throes of passion-"
"That's enough now." The butler said to the maid slowly approaching the dining table. "I don't recall you being paid to engage in such unimportant rumors about your employer and asking a guest about it."
"I was just curious-"
"Your curiosity dies in your mind and you shall not engage in any conversations pertaining to this matter with anyone, especially a guest of Lord Kent or else." He said, giving her a warning glance.
"I apologize for my incompetence." The maid said her head was hanging low.
"I don't remember being the subject of the discussion." He nodded slightly at her and then Lilith.
"I apologize for my unintended curiosity to miss Lilith on a topic concerning my employer. It won't happen again." The maid said bowing slightly.
"It's okay," Lilith said tightly.
"You may leave now. You're not needed." He said sternly to the maid.
"Go back to your quarters. Your weekly dividend is to be cut off for such unruly behavior. Go.''
She left slowly, her shoes making distant tapping sounds on the tiles.
"I apologize for her behavior, Miss Lilith. This new staff tends to be a bit immature and unprofessional."
"It's okay." She said tightly.
A silence followed.
"Is Kent coming down for breakfast?"
"Ah yes. That's the reason I came down here in the first place." He said. " He apologized for his absence at breakfast and said to tell you he won't be available."
"Oh." She said disappointedly.
"He must be mad about the issue." she thought quietly to herself.
"How was he this morning?" She asked the butler.
"The Lord is very fine. Hale and hearty I must say." He paused.
"He also said to tell you he'll be busy the entire day and maybe you too could catch up on a late lunch." He continued.
The butler watched as several emotions showcased on Lilith's face. Joy, happiness, excitement.
Her eyes turned red and a sweet smile graced her lips.
"I would be available for late lunch." She said with a bright smile.
"Okay miss. I'll be sure to tell the Lord."
She nodded.
"Are you ready to have breakfast now miss?''
"Yes yes, I am. The food looks so delightful and full of color and the fruits." Lilith said fawning over the fruits.
"They do look so beautiful I must say." The butler said affirmingly.
"The strawberries are so bright red and look at the grapes. I've never seen such big grapes with such a vivid color. And the orange juice looks like it tastes delightful."She said fawningly.
"And they taste nice too." The butler added.
Lilith picked up a bright strawberry biting slowly, her eyes shining with mirth.
"They do have a great taste."
"Thank you miss, all the fruits are grown in the greenhouse by the gardener and some help from the Lord if he has time."
"Kent grew these?" She said, her eyes twinkling.
"Well the gardener did, The Lord just supervised sometimes." The butler thought to himself.
"Yes miss." He said, flashing a smile at her.
"Would you like to have anything else? I'll tell the kitchen to just make it."
"No, I'm just fine. Thank you."
The butler left after bowing slightly.
Lilith shook in her chair happily.
"Late lunch…" The words of the butler sounded in her head again and again making her smile so much her cheekbones hurt.
"He wasn't angry or anything. He was just busy and he wanted to have lunch with me amongst his busy schedule." She thought to herself.
"I have to look my very best and change my dress too. I have to get ready!" She mused silently.
She hummed a song eating her fruits from the bowl.
The butler watched from the door of the dining area. Looking at her happy figure, bobbing her head and humming a sweet song with a sweet smile on her face too.
"These two are going to cause a ruckus." He thought to himself, a smile tugging on his lips.
He walked to the kitchen slowly stopping to talk to the chef.
"Bert?" He shouted into the open kitchen.
"Yes sir." A smallish looking man came out with a dirty apron tied to his waist.
"Prepare a late lunch for two for the Lord and miss Lilith," He said turning away. "Oh I almost forgot, The miss is a vegetarian so do not put anything meat into the menu except for the Lord."
"But just wait a moment." The cook said halting the butler.
"Have you seen the issue today? Could the Lord be finally settling down with the miss?" He whispered in the empty kitchen, his eyes glimmering.
"I guess you'll just wait and see." He said walking away.
