Olivia's phone buzzed just as she was speaking, and she glanced down at the screen. "It's Alex," she murmured, her brow furrowing in concern.
I shook my head, my frustration still simmering beneath the surface. "If you want to talk to him, go ahead," I replied tersely. "I'm heading back to the ward."
But before I could turn away, Olivia reached out to grab my arm. "Wait, Elena," she urged, her voice tinged with urgency. "Just give me a moment to talk to him. I'll be right behind you, I promise."
Reluctantly, I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for my earlier outburst. "Fine," I muttered, my tone softer this time. "But make it quick."
I lingered nearby as Olivia took the call, her voice hushed as she spoke to Alex. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation, my curiosity getting the better of me.
"Hey, Alex," Olivia began, her tone gentle yet firm. "I'm with Elena right now, and she's going through a lot. Can we talk about this later?"
