Due to the fact that Kalima had bonded with Peter, who was a denizen of this world, made it possible for the monkey to grasp an understanding of the language structure of this world's inhabitants. In other words Kalima could easily understand what Sam and his colleagues were saying.
Kalima frowned slightly when the scientist Tom called him a mindless beast but for the sake of fairness, the monkey chose to overlook it. As the scientist Sam stretched out his hand towards Kalima, the monkey quickly sensed the rising hostile intentions of Jordan and Collier who stood at the back of the group.
Noticing the strange looking weapons which Jordan and Collier pointed towards him, Kalima wondered if they actually wanted to attack him or if they were just being cautious of the fact that he would attack Sam who was closest to him. Of course Kalima wasn't arrogant enough to try and prove the humans' presumptions right, so he did contrary to what they all expected.
