The room and the silence I had delved into were interrupted by the young man's voice and his energetic knocking on the wooden door blocking access to my resting place. There was no question of falling asleep quickly, especially with everything happening around me, but I had to keep him at a distance.
I came out pretending I had just woken up, though I hadn't closed my eyes for a moment. The hardest thing to fake was the yawn, indicating visible exhaustion.
"Youth, at this hour some clerics sleep while others prepare to. What do you want, and, better yet, how can I help you?" I asked sleepily.
"I beg your pardon, Your Excellency," said the young man, kneeling. "I didn't mean to disturb you, but I would like to offer you a gift."
"A gift? Don't you think it's a bit early for such things? Wait... How do you know I'm a bishop?"
