Side story 6: Benimaru's story (Final chapter )

The journey to Tryni Elite Academy had been fraught with anticipation and uncertainty. As the hero's party traveled in their carriage, the familiar clatter of hooves against the cobblestones provided a rhythmic backdrop to their conversation. Benimaru, the chosen one, sat with Excalibur resting across his lap, a solemn expression on his face.

"I still can't believe I haven't unlocked the full potential of Excalibur," Benimaru mused, his voice tinged with frustration. "Even with all my training, I feel like I'm missing something."

Flicker, ever the optimist, chuckled at his words. "Come on, Benimaru, don't be so hard on yourself. You're already a formidable warrior, even without the full power of Excalibur."

Kanade nodded in agreement, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "That's right. You may not have mastered the sword yet, but your skills are unmatched on the battlefield."

Despite their attempts to lighten the mood, a sense of unease lingered in the air. The destruction they witnessed upon arriving at the academy only heightened their apprehension. The once-majestic spires of the academy lay in ruins, the air heavy with the scent of ash and smoke.

"We're too late," Benimaru sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat as he surveyed the devastation.

Kanade scanned the area with her gun, her keen eyes searching for any signs of danger. Flicker remained on high alert, her ears twitching at the slightest sound.

Suddenly, Excalibur began to glow with a bright, pulsating light, drawing Benimaru's attention. He felt a surge of energy course through him, his heart pounding with anticipation.

"It's leading us somewhere," Benimaru declared, his voice filled with determination.

With Excalibur as their guide, the trio ventured deeper into the ruins, their senses on high alert. The ground beneath their feet was uneven and treacherous, littered with debris from the destruction. The air crackled with residual magic, a testament to the fierce battle that had taken place.

As they approached their destination, the sound of beating wings filled the air. A wyvern emerged from the shadows, its eyes gleaming with malice as it prepared to attack. Beside it lay a young girl, her academy uniform torn and tattered, her face pale and drawn from exhaustion.

Without hesitation, the trio sprang into action, their movements fluid and coordinated. Benimaru charged forward, Excalibur blazing with a fierce light as he engaged the wyvern in combat. Kanade took aim with her gun, her shots precise and deadly, while Flicker chanted incantations, summoning bolts of lightning and fire to strike the creature down.

With their combined efforts, they managed to defeat the wyvern, the final blow landing with a resounding crash. As the dust settled, Benimaru knelt beside the unconscious girl, his heart filled with compassion.

"Is she... a princess?" he wondered aloud, his voice tinged with awe as he observed her delicate features.

Kanade nodded in agreement, her expression softening. "She must be someone important for the wyvern to target her like this."

Flicker approached cautiously, her eyes scanning the area for any further threats. "We need to get her to safety," she declared, her voice firm with resolve.

With gentle hands, they lifted the girl into the carriage, careful not to jostle her as they settled her in. The journey back to the kingdom was quiet, the only sound the steady clip-clop of hooves against the road.

As the hero's party arrived at the kingdom gates, a sense of anticipation filled the air. The guards, recognizing Benimaru and his companions, greeted them with reverence, their voices echoing with excitement.

"Hero! Hero! Hero!" the people cried out, their cheers ringing through the streets as word of their arrival spread like wildfire.

Benimaru couldn't help but feel a swell of pride at the reception. For so long, he had trained and fought tirelessly to protect the kingdom, and now, his efforts were being celebrated by all.

As they made their way through the crowded streets, the people of the kingdom gathered around them, eager to catch a glimpse of their beloved hero. Mothers held their children up high, pointing excitedly as Benimaru and his companions passed by.

Kanade smiled, her eyes shining with pride as she walked alongside Benimaru. Flicker, ever the loyal companion, trotted faithfully at his side, her tail wagging with excitement.

The cheers grew louder as they approached the castle gates, where King Arthur awaited them with a warm smile.

"Welcome back, my friends," the king said, his voice filled with gratitude. "You have done the kingdom a great service, and we are forever in your debt."

Benimaru bowed respectfully, a sense of humility washing over him. "It was our honor to serve," he replied, his voice steady with determination. "We will always stand ready to defend the kingdom, no matter the cost."
