Shen Huan burst out laughing. "Darkness on my forehead? Are you kidding?"
"I looked in the mirror before I left," he continued solemnly. "Bright as day. After the founding of the nation, no spirit was allowed to come to life. You'd better not spread these superstitious beliefs, or I might just report you."
Shi Yaoguang nodded noncommittally. "You're not wrong."
"Huh?" Shen Huan was startled. He had thought Shi Yaoguang would insist on her point. Why had she given up so suddenly?
She seemed to read his mind and showed a compassionate smile. "Believe it, and it exists; doubt it, and it does not."
