She had been sitting in the cafe for a very long time until her phone rang and she heard Gu Kai's voice urging her to come back, then she slowly got up to leave.
When she got home, Gu Kai didn't notice anything off about her.
After they had had dinner, Gu Kai changed his clothes and got ready to go out. "I have to step out for a bit and might come back late. You should go to bed early, alright?" he said, giving her a parting kiss and speaking softly.
Shen Ruo noticed that there was a certain weight in his gaze. Pretending to be casual, she asked, "Where are you heading to so late?"
For a split second, she distinctly saw Gu Kai's eyes flicker. "To meet someone, an old friend. I'll be back soon."
"Oh, come back early," Shen Ruo smiled.
Gu Kai returned the smile with relief. Once he had left, the smile disappeared from Shen Ruo's face. She put her hand on her chest, finding it difficult to breathe.
