Lucas hadn't exaggerated when he said the nuns were welcoming their travelling party with open arms. As Celia was led inside the priory, she was greeted by a cluster of nuns in wimples and dark habits, all bowing deeply.

One of the older women stepped forward and introduced herself as the prioress. "You may call me Mother Deborah, Your Grace. We're honoured by your visit to our humble home. Please follow me."

Celia nodded and smiled tentatively at the short woman with the lined but jolly face. She was rewarded with a wide, warm smile in return.

"I'm afraid we don't have guest rooms for all of your party in the main building." Mother Deborah explained a few moments later with an apologetic smile. They were now standing at the edge of a long but rather narrow courtyard. In the rapidly fading light, Celia saw a smaller white building at its far end.
