"Just leave?"

Sitting in the dirt, Celia almost started laughing at his words. They were ridiculous.

She should leave to where, exactly? They were out in the most godforsaken countryside imaginable.

It had to all be some kind of jest, she concluded. A very unfunny one, but Tobin had always had a spiteful sense of humour. He'd just be trying to embarrass her in front of everyone, to get her back for the warm welcome she'd received from a few of the villagers.

I can deal with him trying to make me feel small. The man is a petty self centred ass, but I knew that already. I'll just keep my mouth shut for the rest of the journey, and stay inside the carriage unless I'm forced to come out.

But that solution wasn't going to be enough for Tobin.

"Is something wrong with your ears that you don't understand me?" he spat out as he stared down at her. "Let me spell it out for you in simple terms you can understand then, stupid chit."
