Celia looked up at him, flabbergasted.
She'd heard Lucas's words but hadn't really heard them.
"You mean to tell me, those women actually sympathise with me?" she asked, shocked.
He nodded. "Word of the baby being practically pulled out of your arms has spread throughout the palace. Many people are against it, especially the ladies of the court. It's just dangerous for them to speak such things out loud, of course."
"But…why? Why would they take my side?" Celia mumbled. "Hardly anyone here likes me."
"Hardly anyone here truly knows you, Your Grace." Lord Da'ar corrected her firmly. "All they know is the way the royal family talk about your foreign blood with suspicion. And now that you've gone and done exactly what a princess should do and borne a healthy son, they see you being punished regardless. Don't you think they might disapprove of such harsh treatment?"
