They couldn't stay hidden away in an alcove for the rest of the day, of course.
Once Celia had composed herself somewhat - and Lucas had vowed her eyes didn't look hideously red and puffy - she'd slipped quietly back into the main part of the library and sat at their table. She flipped through a book without reading any of its words.
A short while later, Lucas calmly took a seat next to her.
"It can't be right to hate someone this much." Celia murmured under her breath. "Especially the person I vowed my lifelong care and obedience to. I didn't come to Havietten with the intention of being a terrible wife. Do you think I'm going to hell for this?"
"No, my love. You're definitely not. And you have to stop telling yourself you're a terrible wife."
