Chapter 182 - Crisp Autumn Days

As sundown approached, Lucas offered to escort Celia back to her apartments.

They walked slowly down the corridors, pausing to admire the view from one of the large windows that had been thrown open. The sky was ablaze with shades of orange and pink, casting its last rays over the bare trees in the palace gardens.

"I wish the season could stay as beautiful as this, but without the days having to get shorter." Celia murmured. "I find the long hours of darkness a bit depressing."

Lucas stared into the distance, the fading light streaking his hair with shades of bronze. "Just think though. When the days start growing longer again, our child will be cradled in your arms. You'll be a mother and I'll be a father. Isn't that something to look forward to?"

Celia looked at his profile, wondering for the millionth time how she'd ended up with the love of such an exceptional man. "You're right. And you'll be such a wonderful father, Lucas. I can already tell."
