Chereads / SON OF DUNE / Chapter 5 - Desert power

Chapter 5 - Desert power

The actions of the Exiled Fremen were not silent; in Arrakeen, the capital of Arrakis, one of its cities, 'The Barron,' heard of the news, and he was elated. Less Fremen meant more spice, and spice was power. Hell, he ate it like candy. But spice meant power, and those who controlled spice controlled all.

The first month passed, and the new seitch was called the red seitch because of the Red Stillsuit the new Fremen wore.

These new Fremen, they scoffed at the Prophecy of the Lisan Al Gaib. They believed in their own power, their ability to shape the future, not in some ancient prophecy. They were the masters of their destiny.

They did not cry and beg to be released from the pain and misery inflicted upon them by the Harkonnens. Now, they are living a life worth living. They have twenty cafeterias, each one big enough to feed five thousand men, women, and children. They could feed the first five thousand people who arrived. And many more were coming.

Once word reached the other Seitches of a new rising power deep in the south, they would also travel here for safety.

Deep within the seitch of the Red Fremen was the personal home of their leader, the young Krelln. The boy filled multiple rooms on the first day with food, especially fruits and vegetables. They had food in abundance, but this also encouraged them to protect this place more.

As time passed, they grew comfortable in their new home. Moss and greenery began to grow in the caves, and the light from the sun and moon was a good source of Photosynthesis.

Krelln holed himself up in his big labs and brought out certain parts of tools to build a machine. He could never bring out an item completely; he had to create it. He could bring out materials from his old world, and all he had to do was figure out how to build it.

He had abundant materials, and he could always achieve what he set his eyes upon, which was what made him special.

A year had passed since he came here with his people the Fremen children, and the elderly came to him. And He had chosen a select few Fremen under him to travel to Different sietches and ask them to join him or at least take the young and elderly.

Some were prideful, calling the red ones exiled and saying their promises were fake. " nothing lives in the desert storms," they said.

however, the truth was the leader of the seitch was afraid. They had never seen a group of nonbelievers. One was enough, but a whole clan was something unseen.

Krelln walked the dunes of the south. He was outside, overlooking the other Fremen in their red Stillsuits, walking the dunes, and placing small sticks in the ground. These were solar panels, but rather, they conducted the heat of dune; they say spice could be used for many things, even in Thropters, and used as fuel, but they still need to remember one thing.

There was an alternative power: the heat of the ground and the heat of the sun blaring down on them.

Jamis, who was in the distance, walked back after he was finished and many others with him came. He spoke in chakobsa, as he neared Krelln "qon qurti bu amalga oshiriladi." (Blood worm, it is done.)

Krelln stood up, and through his mask, he saw the thousands of solar panels already buried deep in the sand. Some may think he may have lost connection to them, but no, they were connected to him through a network. Wires went down a tunnel, connecting them to the generators inside the Seitch.

He caressed his neck and pressed a button, and the power from the solar panel began to transfer to the generators in the seitch. Now, they do not just have natural light but artificial light.

Lamps begin to be lit inside the great seitch city. This project took six months and now was done, but now they had the power to charge the batteries to ride their hoverbikes.

Another machine Krelln created. He saw how the Harkonnens controlled their gravity and used particular suits to hover down.

He applied that technology to his bikes, and he almost killed himself multiple times when trying to replicate it; even Jamis wanted him to stop, but he said.

" Jamis, we have a home, but we need power to maintain it. The Harkonnens will come for us; they will think of us as vulnerable, and we need to be ready when the time comes.

I will not wait to be attacked; I will deliver the first blow." in his mind, Krelln thought ' now I understand why you wanted desert power.'

Krelln was now eleven years old, and he had built 1,500 hoverbikes. He locked himself in his laboratories just to focus on the goal of making more hoverbikes. He built machines for an assembly line to produce things faster, and the people were more than willing to help.

'One more year, he thought, and then we attack, the Harkonnens will see blood on the desert. They will know of my power.'

"We have power!" yelled one Fremen girl. She raised her hands in celebration, and on her eyes were goggles that were dark enough to cover the sun's light.

Many others joined her in celebration. And from the mountain came another Fremen man who ran usually and did not walk in the pattern that other Fremen do to avoid the sandworms.

This whole area where the Solar panels were placed was a dead zone; this place repulsed the sandworms. It released a specific frequency that annoyed them to be there, so they stayed away.

"Bizda kuchli qon qurti bor" (We have power bloodworm), said the Fremen man, running over to the group surrounding Krelln.

Jamis came to Krelln and hugged him. With this, they now had a way to fight back, and he was right about what was coming next. The Harkonnens would start to fear the red.

Krelln whispered to himself, "Desert power," as he clenched his gloves.
