Chereads / The Immortal Eve [Apocalypse] / Chapter 17 - peaceful world

Chapter 17 - peaceful world

In the serene and vibrant Cultivator world, life continues with a sense of order and purpose. The mountains stretch high into the sky, shrouded in mists, and ancient sects train their disciples in the ways of cultivation. Vast forests filled with mystical beasts and rivers rich with spiritual energy flow through the land, feeding the ambitions of the cultivators who seek to ascend to immortality.

This world, unlike others, knows no external threat. It is self-contained, its people and rulers oblivious to the existence of other worlds. They believe their conflicts with the Murim world are the extent of their reality, the apex of their understanding of life and power.

In a peaceful valley, at the heart of a grand sect, the disciples gather for daily lessons. Masters of profound cultivation stand before them, teaching the art of refining spiritual energy, tempering the body, and sharpening the mind.

In one of these grand halls, a young disciple named Li Shen stands in the courtyard, meditating under a vast oak tree. The air around him hums with spiritual energy as he draws power from the earth. His fellow disciples chatter about the upcoming tournament with the Murim world, none of them aware of the distant shadow looming on the horizon.

Li Shen's eyes open, sensing something unusual, a faint ripple in the air. He dismisses it as a fluctuation in the natural energy, unaware of the dark forces gathering far beyond his world. The sky above is clear, and the sun beams warmly upon the sect's lush grounds, reflecting the peace that has long held sway in the Cultivator world.

**Master Yuan**, the head of the sect, steps forward, his presence commanding the attention of all.

**Master Yuan:** *"Disciples, the Murim tournament approaches, and we must be prepared. Focus on your training, and remember, the path to immortality is one of constant refinement."*

Li Shen bows his head respectfully but cannot shake the odd feeling creeping over him. He glances toward the horizon, where dark clouds are beginning to gather far in the distance, though none of the others seem to notice.

The Cultivator world remains blissfully unaware of the existence of other realms—of the Shadow Empire, of Zadkiel's conquests, of the devastation looming on the edge of their reality. But as those clouds slowly build, they herald the arrival of a force beyond their imagination, a power that could shatter the peace they have known for so long.

In this moment of calm, the world of cultivators stands on the brink of an event that will forever alter their history. Unknown to them, their destiny is being drawn into the web of inter-world conflict that will soon change everything.

Li Shen opens his eyes as he hears the familiar voices of his wife and children approaching. He smiles softly, but before he can speak, his wife, **Mei Lan**, crosses her arms and gives him a mock stern look.

**Mei Lan:** *"Li Shen, you shouldn't be sleeping around like a bum. You're supposed to be preparing for the upcoming tournament, remember?"*

His daughter, **Xiao Ling**, giggles and runs up to him, tugging at his sleeve.

**Xiao Ling:** *"Daddy, mommy's right! You always tell us to work hard, but look at you, lazy!"*

Behind her, his son, **Li Wei**, smirks and shakes his head. Though still young, Li Wei already shows promise as a cultivator, with a serious demeanor that contrasts his father's laid-back attitude.

**Li Wei:** *"Master Yuan would be disappointed, Father. If you lose in the tournament, it won't look good on the family."*

Li Shen chuckles, brushing the dirt from his robes as he rises to his feet. He pats Xiao Ling on the head, a warm smile on his face.

**Li Shen:** *"Alright, alright, I get it. No more sleeping around. But you know, a good cultivator knows how to find balance between rest and training. Maybe I'm just setting a good example?"*

Mei Lan rolls her eyes but her stern expression softens into a smile.

**Mei Lan:** *"A good example, huh? Well, let's hope your 'balance' doesn't cost you the tournament."*

Li Shen gives her a playful grin and wraps his arm around her.

**Li Shen:** *"Don't worry, I'll be ready. I've faced tougher opponents than the Murim fighters. And besides, with you three by my side, how could I lose?"*

As they share a light moment, Xiao Ling and Li Wei laugh, and for a brief time, the worries of the outside world seem distant and irrelevant. But deep down, Li Shen feels the faint tug of something more—something beyond their peaceful life. He doesn't know what it is yet, but with his family close, he's determined to face whatever comes next.

For now, he's content to enjoy this brief moment of peace with his family, unaware of the storm that's slowly gathering.

As Li Shen stood there, the warm breeze of their peaceful valley brushing against him, a distant sense of unease crept into his mind. Though his family surrounded him with love and laughter, the calm of the Cultivator world seemed too perfect, too quiet.

His wife, Mei Lan, noticed the shift in his expression.

**Mei Lan:** *"Li Shen? What's wrong?"*

Li Shen shook his head, trying to dismiss the feeling, but it lingered.

**Li Shen:** *"Nothing... just a strange feeling. Probably nothing."*

Before she could press him further, an old friend and fellow cultivator, **Jiang Tao**, arrived, walking up the path to their home. He seemed troubled, his usually calm demeanor replaced by a slight frown.

**Jiang Tao:** *"Li Shen, may I speak with you?"*

Li Shen, sensing the seriousness, nodded and turned to his family.

**Li Shen:** *"Why don't you three go ahead and start dinner? I'll catch up soon."*

Mei Lan hesitated but ultimately gave him a small nod, gathering Xiao Ling and Li Wei as they walked back to the house. Once they were out of earshot, Li Shen turned to Jiang Tao.

**Li Shen:** *"What is it, Tao? You seem... uneasy."*

Jiang Tao glanced around, as if expecting someone to overhear.

**Jiang Tao:** *"There have been rumors. Strange energies detected near the boundary of our world. Some say it's nothing, but..."*

Li Shen furrowed his brow.

**Li Shen:** *"But you think it's something more?"*

Jiang Tao nodded, his voice lowering.

**Jiang Tao:** *"The energies... they don't match anything we know. No cultivation technique, no spiritual force we've ever seen. I went to investigate with a few of the elders, but even they were baffled. It's like the energy isn't from our world."*

Li Shen felt a cold chill at those words. While their world knew of the Murim world and its warriors, the idea of something beyond that—another realm—was unheard of.

**Li Shen:** *"What are you saying?"*

Jiang Tao's voice dropped to a whisper.

**Jiang Tao:** *"I think... other realms may exist. And whatever this energy is, it's not friendly. It feels... dark."*

Li Shen stared off into the distance, the earlier feeling of unease now solidifying into something more concrete. He didn't know what was coming, but if Jiang Tao was right, their peaceful world might soon be caught in something far beyond their understanding.

**Li Shen:** *"I'll help you investigate further. We need to know what we're dealing with before it's too late."*

Jiang Tao nodded, his expression grim.

**Jiang Tao:** *"I feared you'd say that. I'll gather the others. Be ready, Li Shen. This may be unlike anything we've ever faced."*

As Jiang Tao left, Li Shen stood alone, staring out at the horizon. The peaceful life he cherished with his family suddenly felt fragile, like a dream that could shatter at any moment. Whatever was coming, it wouldn't be stopped by the tournaments or rival Murim fighters. This was something bigger.

And for the first time in years, Li Shen felt truly afraid.

Li Shen shook his head, trying to dismiss the nagging worries that clawed at the back of his mind.

**Li Shen:** *"Forget about it. It's probably just our imagination or something else. I highly doubt that other worlds exist. If that were true, our ancestors would have told us."*

He turned, a half-hearted smile forming as he tried to brush off the unsettling conversation. The familiar warmth of home beckoned, and he felt the weight of exhaustion pulling him down.

**Li Shen:** *"Whatever. I'm just going to go back to sleep."*

He walked back toward the house, the sweet aroma of Mei Lan's cooking filling the air and easing his tension. As he stepped inside, the laughter of his children greeted him, wrapping him in a cocoon of normalcy.

**Mei Lan:** *"There you are! I was beginning to think you'd fallen into a deep slumber!"*

**Li Wei:** *"Yeah! You're going to miss dinner if you keep sleeping!"*

**Xiao Ling:** *"Daddy, you need to get stronger! You can't sleep all day!"*

Li Shen chuckled, ruffling their hair as he took a seat at the table.

**Li Shen:** *"I'll be stronger after a good meal and some rest. Trust me."*

As they sat down to eat, he tried to focus on the joy of family and the comfort of their home. The clatter of utensils and the sound of his children's chatter filled the room, momentarily pushing aside the unease that lingered in his heart.

Yet, as he glanced out the window at the tranquil valley, the darkness he had felt earlier still loomed in the back of his mind.

Unbeknownst to them, far beyond their world, shadows stirred, and ancient powers awakened, preparing to disrupt the peace of the Cultivator world.

**Li Shen:** *"Let's enjoy this moment while we can."*

He raised his cup, forcing a bright smile to his face, hoping it would keep the encroaching darkness at bay—if only for a little while.

As they settled into their meal, the conversation shifted to the upcoming tournament that was the talk of the village.

**Mei Lan:** *"Have you heard about the tournament coming up next month? I heard warriors from the Murim world are going to participate this time!"*

Li Shen perked up, his interest piqued.

**Li Shen:** *"Really? I've heard tales about the Murim warriors. They say they're among the strongest fighters in all the realms. It'll be quite the spectacle!"*

**Li Wei:** *"I heard they can even use their inner energy to perform incredible feats! I want to be just like them when I grow up!"*

**Xiao Ling:** *"But Daddy, you're already strong! You can protect us!"*

Li Shen smiled at his daughter, a sense of pride swelling within him.

**Li Shen:** *"Thank you, sweetheart. But even I can learn a thing or two from them. The Murim world has a rich history of martial arts and powerful techniques. It would be amazing to see them in action."*

**Mei Lan:** *"Just be careful, okay? I've heard they can be ruthless in the arena. It's not just about strength; it's about strategy and skill."*

**Li Shen:** *"I know, I know. But it's an opportunity for our village to shine. If one of us can win against a Murim warrior, think about the honor it would bring!"*

As they continued eating, the children animatedly discussed their favorite fighters from the Murim world. Li Wei recounted stories he'd heard from the elders about legendary champions, while Xiao Ling chimed in with her dreams of competing someday.

**Li Wei:** *"I want to see the Black Tiger of Murim! They say he's unbeatable!"*

**Xiao Ling:** *"I'd rather meet the Moonlight Swordmaster! She's so graceful and powerful!"*

Li Shen listened, a smile creeping onto his face as he watched his children's enthusiasm. But as the excitement buzzed around the table, a dark thought flickered through his mind:

What if the tournament attracted not only honorable warriors but also those with darker intentions?

He shook his head, trying to dispel the thought.

**Li Shen:** *"You two better train hard if you want to compete! We should visit the training grounds tomorrow to practice."*

**Xiao Ling:** *"Yes! I'll show you my new technique!"*

The table erupted in laughter, but in the back of Li Shen's mind, the worry lingered. The tournament was an opportunity, but it also felt like a harbinger of something more ominous.

Outside, the sun began to set, casting long shadows over the valley, as if foreshadowing the challenges and changes that were soon to come.
