In the middle of the night, Regan suddenly woke up. She had cold sweats and felt chilly. The dream woke her up again and she cursed the sleeping pill for not keeping her asleep, as what else was it's purpose for?She reminded herself of how she left her phone on record. The light on the bedside table was purposely left on earlier by her and she got up from the bed to turn on the main light of the room. Her eyes adjusted quickly and she grabbed her phone. Little did she know it was off."What the hell? How did you turn off?" Regan said when she saw it.
She remember very well it was full on battery.
She waited impatiently for it to turn on. The battery wasn't drained at all, so how did the phone turn off? She opened the gallery to not find any videos of recording. She slammed the phone on the table angrily, and grabbed it again to see the clock. It was half past two.The room had turned suddenly hot or was she hot, she wasn't sure. The girl opened the balcony's door for fresh air. She stayed on the balcony for a while, testing her elbows on the fence.
Everything was so peaceful. The breeze of the wind made contact with her bare arms and made her feel a little cold. She stayed like this for about five minutes, and then went inside again.Regan didn't think to sleep, it was the last thing at the moment. She walked out of her room, boringly and cautiously. She didn't want to wake Monica up,but as she was already downstairs, the girl froze when she heard the bathroom door slammed shut.First she thought if that was her aunt, but seeing that the bathroom's lights were off, why would Monica keep the light off?The girl took unsure steps towards the bathroom. She had to say it was night and woke up from some weird dream,so maybe her mind was playing tricks on her.She still was sure about what saw.The girl thought again that it might have been Monica, because what else was she supposed to think to calm herself down? As this thought took place, it wouldn't be nice if Monica learnt that Regan was awake.Still, Regan had to make sure it was her aunt. She tip-toed to Monica's room and carefully twisted the doorknob. Then, she saw Monica sleeping in her bed. That meant it wasn't her who closed the bathroom's door.Regan was weirded out of how the door closed itself. There weren't any windows opened. As her paranoic and suspicious nature kicked in, the girl thought that it was something she had to figure out. When she walked downstairs again, the bathroom's door was still closed. The laptop, which was on top of the coffee table, was taken by Regan to be kept in defense. She didn't know what she was thinking. But deep down, the fear was engulfing her.Her heart was pounding on her chest excessively. The beats were very loud in the quiet silence. With a shaky breath, she attempted to steady herself, hoping to dispel the lingering unease. The scared girl twisted the doorknobwith the laptop on the other hand. She pushed the door away after twisting the knob and turned the light on without necessary entering inside, the light key was next to the door. But as the lights turned on,there was no one inside. She checked behind the door and saw no one. Not any trace, just an ordinary bathroom."If there was anyone, they had the chance to leave when you went upstairs." Said Regan to herself. She didn't shut off the lights as she stepped out of the bathroom, the paranoic girl heard sounds coming from the kitchen. Her heart leaped into her throat again. She sprinted to the kitchen and there was no one or anything suspicious.Regan felt uncertain and unnerving. She thought once that maybe she was hearing things.
She wandered around the kitchen and living room but there was no sign of interference or suspect.Everything was the same it was left before. However, Regan's attempt at reassurance was short-lived as her attention was instantly drawn to some sounds coming from upstairs, from her room, to be more specific. The sounds were just like someone was jumping hard on the ground.
Even though her heart was pounding hard on it's own, Regan sprinted upstairs. She gathered her courage to find out what was going on.She cursed under her breath for having to deal with creepy things. The girl held a tight grip on the laptop. For her, it was more than sure, someone was inside her house and was trying to mess with her. When she came near the room, she found the door opened and the lights on. Regan didn't leave them on, but she didn't really remember that. Her footsteps halted as she entered in and again,no one was in her room. There were no words to explain how scared she was in inside. She heard a whisper of her name, it wouldn't be a lie to say that the girl even felt a breath on her neck. Her hairs stood on the end.The girl tried to scream but her mouth looked like it was chained. She was getting terrified to the core, looking cautiously around the room and seeing nothing. However anger raised within her, as she couldn't stand the nonsense anymore."What the hell is going on here?!"Call the girl silly or crazy, a new thought bore in her mind. From not seeing anyone, she thought the house was haunted. Regan never thought she was going to think that. She never believed in ghosts after all. For her, it was stupid enough to come into that conclusion, but what other answer was there to be?She realized she had hit the wall near the bed, still holding the laptop near her chest. What got the girl's attention again, was a siluette of a black shadow flickering to the wall. And that was it all. She screamed but quickly covered her mouth to prevent even more. She ran away from her room. While on the stairs, she nearly tripped from pasing multiple stairs. She hurriedly and anxiously twisted the doorknob of the main door after struggling hard to put the key in. The fear within her and her heart pounding on her chest, were adding up to clumsiness. When Regan finally unlocked the main door, she ended up on the street of the peaceful neighborhood. On the last days, the girl didn't consider it peaceful anymore. Her room's lights were turned off. Only downstairs light's were on.For the first time, she had a wish that all this was her imagination. After all, she didn't wake up in a lovely state. When rethinking everything, there was no way she imagined all that. The voice and the shadow terrified her the most. The siluette was a man's figure, that's what Regan merely saw.She shivered in the cold and wrapped her arms around herself. As seconds were passing, Regan was getting even more frightened. It was night and she didn't had her phone or laptop with herself.Streets at nights weren't safe. She had walked quite far from the house, although she had no idea where to go or what to do.Once she sat down at a stool, she thought of how she left her house and how Monica was still inside. Regan's body trembled when she thought that the "thing" inside her house could hurt her aunt. Her courage ran out of use, she didn't have the strength to enter her house again. The police crossed her mind but she didn't have a phone. What could she do? She couldn't bang on some neighbor's door and tell them she've been hearing sounds and seeing figures in her own house. They would take her as crazy. When thinking about the neighbors, Vesper appeared in her mind. Her weird friend was her neighbor, who stayed awake at nights and home alone. Regan stood up and walked on the dark alley to the direction of Vesper's house. It had been weeks since she moved, so she remembered the neighborhood roads very well.As she passed her house again, the lights on the first floor were all off. Fear engulfed her all over again. She stopped looking at her house, and walked fast at Vesper's house. The lights of this strange house were turned off. Regan hoped that she was awake.Frightened, the girl knocked in three times impatiently. Different thoughts ran through her mind, as why was Vesper taking so long? She felt a knot on her stomach, from her multiplying panic and fear.Regan's frustration raised when the door wasn't opening. She consistently looked at her house and prayed that her aunt was alright. But she also turned around nonstop, because she had that undeniable fear that someone was watching her, lurking behind the dark woods.
