Months passed, and Matthew's power grew exponentially. His control over his abilities sharpened with practice, each experiment making him more dangerous than the day before. Telekinesis, bones, the Gaster Blasters—every tool at his disposal had become an extension of himself.
One month ago, he finally pinpointed the company that had destroyed his father: Nexus Corp. Their headquarters, a towering skyscraper in the heart of New York City, was their fortress. It wasn't long before Matthew had bought a one-way ticket to the city, and now, he stood at its bustling airport, ready to strike.
As he stepped into the crowded streets of New York, people instinctively moved out of his way. They could feel it—the oppressive aura of power that radiated from him like a storm cloud. Whispers followed him, but no one dared to approach.
"Alright," Matthew muttered, scanning the skyline. "Now I just need to find them. Shouldn't be too hard."
With a single leap, Matthew landed atop a nearby building, his telekinesis helping him soar effortlessly. From there, he began traversing the rooftops, moving silently from one structure to the next, his eyes peeled for any sign of Nexus Corp.'s logo.
A Lead in the Shadows
As he bounded over another building, a faint sound caught his attention—voices in an alley below. He crouched on the edge of the roof, listening intently. Two men stood in the shadows, their conversation piquing his interest.
"Didn't you hear?" one of them said, glancing around nervously. "He's going to be here any second."
"Hah! I'd like to see him try," the other replied with a smirk. "We've got a special weapon he won't see coming!"
"Yeah, but don't forget—it almost killed all of us during testing," the first man said, lowering his voice.
"Relax. Boss installed a mind-control chip. Pretty sure it messes with its memory, too."
"Memory alteration… that's messed up, even for us."
"What else was the boss supposed to do? Try negotiating? Yeah, right."
Matthew's eyes narrowed. Mind control? A special weapon? He'd heard enough. As the two men climbed into an unmarked black van, Matthew followed from above, keeping to the rooftops and staying out of sight.
Nexus Corp.
The van eventually pulled into a massive tower with Nexus Corp.'s logo plastered across its front. Though not as tall as the Twin Towers had been, it was an imposing structure, its sleek, modern design practically screaming wealth and power.
"Damn," Matthew muttered, crouching on a nearby rooftop. "Didn't think they'd be this obvious. Holy shit."
He waited for a few minutes, watching the entrance carefully. When the coast seemed clear, he leapt down, landing gracefully in front of the building. As he walked through the front doors, the atmosphere changed immediately. The air was heavy with tension, and everyone in the lobby froze as they felt his presence.
Matthew walked straight to the counter, where a young receptionist sat, her hands trembling slightly.
"Where is your boss?" he asked coldly.
The girl didn't respond. Instead, she pressed a button discreetly under her desk. Matthew's eyes caught the movement, and his patience snapped.
Before she could react, he raised his hand, using his telekinesis to lift her into the air.
"Thanks," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. "That's all I needed to know. Now die."
With a flick of his wrist, he slammed her into the wall, summoning a volley of bones that impaled her instantly. The alarms blared, red lights flashing throughout the building.
Fighting Through the Tower
Armed guards poured into the lobby, forming a defensive line in front of Matthew. Each one was clad in high-tech armor and armed with automatic weapons, but Matthew didn't flinch.
"You're all in my way," he said flatly.
The ground beneath the guards erupted as bones shot up, skewering them where they stood. Matthew stepped over their lifeless bodies, heading toward the elevator.
The lockdown had disabled the elevators, but that didn't stop him. He pried the doors open with his telekinesis, revealing the dark shaft beyond. Without hesitation, he floated upward, propelled by his powers.
As he ascended, elevator doors opened periodically, revealing more guards. They fired at him, bullets ricocheting off the walls as Matthew summoned a barrier of bones to shield himself. With a flick of his hand, he sent the guards flying, slamming them into walls and letting their bodies fall into the depths of the shaft.
Then came the drones. Sleek, black machines armed with machine guns, rockets, and lasers. They swarmed the shaft, their weapons firing relentlessly.
"Annoying," Matthew muttered, summoning a Gaster Blaster. The floating skull charged its energy before unleashing a devastating beam that tore through the drones. Explosions rocked the shaft, but Matthew pressed on, undeterred.
By the time he reached the top, the tower was littered with destruction. He forced the final set of doors open, stepping into the lavish office of Nexus Corp.'s CEO.
The Confrontation
The office was massive, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a breathtaking view of the city. Behind a large mahogany desk sat a man in a tailored suit, his expression calm despite the chaos Matthew had unleashed.
"So, you finally got here," the man said, leaning back in his chair. "About time."
Matthew's eyes burned with hatred. "You have any idea what you did to me? To my father?"
"Oh, I'm well aware," the man replied with a smirk. "Which is why I had a special weapon prepared just for you."
"Yeah, I already know," Matthew snapped. "Your goons aren't exactly tight-lipped."
The CEO chuckled, unbothered by the insult. "It doesn't matter. Because of this."
He pressed a button on his desk. A wave of energy swept through the room, scanning every corner. Matthew felt a sharp pain in his head as his vision blurred.
"Wha—?"
Before he could react, darkness consumed him, and he collapsed to the floor.
What did the CEO's weapon do to Matthew? Is this the end for him, or the start of an even greater transformation?
