Chapter 4 - Warrior selection

" the body had many meridians…mmmm the five senses can't sense the pulse."

The fireflies light up the area, making it easier to read.

"Organ work together? Heartbeat..making the blood flow." Feeling very confused his hand was on his chest, trying to feel his heartbeat.

" what blood, Heartbeat.." the more he thinks the more confused he becomes. He knows the heart but what it means by the heart beating then the blood will flow.

The next day, Big Ear went to ask Uncle Sam for advice.

"Um, oh um that. I think the heart causing the blood to circulate..um like moving."

Uncle looks at the book he holding and seems to be thinking very hard.

" Big ear! Uncle Sam! We going for the selections.. we off."

I saw Big Eye waving his hand; he was outside of the shop but near the door.

"Go..Go…" scratching his head as Uncle Sam used his other hand to flip the page.

"Where're you going?" Big Ear walks over to them.

Big Nose folded his hand and said "The warrior selection, we have been training under a young master, hoping to meet the qualifications for this year."

"Can I go too?"

"Sure, but I advise you just watch from the sideline. You might cry after joining the selection."

Big ear felt dissatisfied but nodded.

In a forest, there were eleven kids standing in a straight line. The instructor was a warrior but a retired one. He dedicated his life to training the warrior of their village but only ten were qualified and became the backbone of the village. They were in their thirties, all were strong and enough to fight bears and attack wolves.

He had a serious face that could make a crying baby stop its mouth.

"You and you… that rock and that one." He yelled.

"What are they doing"

Big ear said and I saw him hiding behind a tree. Big Nose said nervously "That instructor looks scary. Ummm… that strength test. It is a test to see your strength and endurance. There're more tests before you are qualified to be taught by him."

Shocked, feeling the pressure, big ear tightened his fist.

"I have to go now." Big Nose said as he walked toward Big Eye, who was hugging a big rock in his chest.

"Huh!.. Why are you here now? Go! pick that rock.."

"Yes! Instructor!" Big nose shout.

It was evening, Big Ear couldn't help but yawn. He was very sleepy and had been watching them for serval hours.

The boys were exhausted, lying on the ground. The big eye has the biggest build, naturally still holding.

The instructor looks satisfied as he watches Big Eye who finally collapses on his knee.

The next few days were raining. The rain was falling. I see the dark cloud: no longer a clear sky. The leaves slip into the water like droplets, falling to the ground. Heavy footsteps could be heard.

"Splash..splash"

In the rain forest, five children who were about seven to ten years old were hastily their footsteps. Each step was heavy and soaking their feet.

In this exam, their shoes were not allowed.

This is the second exam, testing their speed and agility. Only about only 5 or 6 people pass. Including a Big eye and a Big nose.

"Huuuu..hui!"

Several monkeys hide up to the tall tree, watching the stranger in amazement.

Big Eye couldn't help but feel pain in his heel. Sometimes his feet would land on hard surfaces or sharp rocks and thorns.

The exam requires them four hours to find and exit the forest.

Thus, many were running, resting, walking, and trying to find the exit as fast as possible.

Big Eye tried to but couldn't remember what the exit looked like, hoping to go through all four directions and its pathway, reach its end, and eventually, he found an exit in one of them.

He had already run two different pathways but found no exit. He was now deciding to run the south pathway but first, he had to return to his starting point.

The instructor must have left them in a forest and in a random place.

But, What if.. they get lost? Would the instructor find him?

"Huff..huff"

Big Eye felt his vision was blurry and difficult to walk. He then uses his last energy, walking toward a big tree. He sat down and began to catch his breath.

He lay his back on the tree trunk. His eyes open and closed watching the rain fall.

The tree had many branches and leaves. It acts like a roof, covering a small area but enough for a big eye to not get wet.

"I wonder how they doing" Big Eye muttered.

He looks at his hand and then his palm. There were bruises that were left by the first exam which still had not recovered yet.

He and Big Nose go in two different directions, they had agreed to work together. So if Big Eye found no exit, he would come back to the starting point. Same for Big Nose, they would share information; this way, it could save a lot of time.

Big eye decides to rest for ten minutes or more. He could also wait for a big nose. So if Big Nose is still not here, he would go to the south pathway which is also Big Nose. He must have found an exit and decided not to come back. Hmmm, maybe he was injured or can't move…

The big eye thought as he bandaged his feet.

"Thank goodness, I learned it from my young master, or else it worsens my condition." He sighed in relief. His feet that root to the water were coloring it red. If he were to allow his blood to keep flowing out, he would lose a lot of energy or let some harmful substances in his blood which will enter his body.

Many of the children who joined the selection were male and had learned many important knowledge before participating in it.

Big Eye grabs some strong grass and then uses it to bandage his other foot. The grass he chooses is naturally the strongest and biggest so he will be able to cover his entire wounds.
