Chereads / Rubeus Hagrid: Grand Druid / Chapter 7 - chapter 7

Chapter 7 - chapter 7

I'm sorry I couldn't post an episode last week. Real life caught up with me and I didn't have time to write. I read your criticism of the last episode. I'll fix it when I have time. Professor Raskalov is a woman.

I would be happy if you support me on my pa(tre)on account.

September 3, 1942

I was waiting for class to start in Defense Against the Dark Arts class. This was the first defense against the dark arts class of the year. Professor Merrythought was, if I don't get in the way, one of the last 2 or 3 teachers to come to Hogwarts and manage to teach for more than a year. From what I remember, he was a strict but experienced teacher. While I was thinking about the Professor and flipping through the Defense Against the Dark Arts book, the classroom slowly filled up and Professor Merrythought entered the lecture. He walked with determined steps towards the podium in front of the classroom and started taking attendance. After finishing the roll call, he started speaking.

"Over the past years, we have learned some simple spells and jinxes to help us defend, along with some dark creatures. Starting this year, we will talk about defense methods not only against dark creatures but also against black magic and dark arts. Now does anyone want to tell me what the dark arts are?"

A child from the front row raised his hand and asked to speak.

"Spells intended to cause harm."

Professor: "It's true, but according to your incomplete definition, even the flipendo you learned in the first grade can be seen as a dark art."

This time it was another Gryffindor's turn to raise my hand.

"Spells and curses that contain a negative emotional component within the cast, often with the risk of corrupting the user."

"10 points to Gryffindor. Any magic that requires strong negative emotions to be an extremely accurate definition is described as dark arts. The dark arts can come in all shapes and forms. "Now, does anyone want to tell me what we should do in front of a dark arts practitioner?"

A boy from the front raised his hand and answered.

"Notify the aurors. Hide."

"It's not wrong, but what if you can't notify the aurors and there's no suitable place to hide and you have to duel."

When there was no sound from the class, he continued. "With a dark arts practitioner

The best thing to do when dueling is to avoid."

A gryffindor raised his hand and began to speak. "But professor, isn't avoidance unique to Muggles? Can't we protect ourselves with protego?"

The professor shook his head disapprovingly and then began to explain. "The best course of action against this master of the dark arts is to dodge everything he throws. The main reason for this is that the dark arts are constantly changing and developing. One wrong shield can put you in a very bad situation, especially since certain curses can only be stopped by certain shield spells. Remember, the best curse is the one that doesn't hit you. So today you will be divided into pairs and practice evading attacks. You are only allowed to use sting spells or various minor prank spells."

The professor quickly paired us all up randomly. We then moved on to another class affiliated with the dark arts class. I've never seen this class before. Although some upperclassmen had told us about this place. Not only was the classroom large enough for at least 100 students to run around and duel, but there were hoops on the floor for each group. When I entered my group's circle, I paid attention to who I ended up matching with. It was John Fawley. He greeted me with a small smile and then got into a dueling stance. After greeting him, I moved into another position where I held my wand in front of my body. When the professor saw that everyone was ready, he gave a sign and the spells started flying in the air. Luckily, there were wards that did not allow the spells that hit the border of the circles to go any further, otherwise I cannot even imagine the chaos that would ensue. Meanwhile, John took advantage of my distraction and sent a laughing curse at me. I moved out of the curse's path at the last moment and sent a tarantellega at him. With a small movement he moved out of the way of my spell. He then sent me a stinging spell. I blocked his spell with a shield spell I learned this summer.

"parum praesidii" was a simple shield that wouldn't stop much more than joke spells, but it seemed the protego was a long way away from me. I also like this with a smaller shield

I was satisfied. As John and I continued to shower each other with spells, I accidentally slipped and was hit by a dancing feet spell from John. We both stood there for a moment, while I froze in shock at being shot, the reason why John froze was different; after all, what he expected didn't happen. My feet were supposed to be dancing, but they were fixed to the ground as if they were a tree rooted in the ground. It only took a moment for me to realize what was happening. Man, I love the magic resistance of giants. I ended the duel by sending a petrification spell at John with an evil grin. I waited next to him until one of the upperclassmen, who was assisting the professor during the lecture, came and untied John. I heard that some sixth grade students are helping professors with practical classes in this regard. Although it is not free, at least it is not a completely financial fee, working with a master is added to their CV and in the future. Useful when joining a guild or ministry. After the upper class I did not know solved John with the counterspell, they immediately turned to other groups. While I reached out my hand and helped John up, I also apologized to him.

"I apologize for the fall."

"It's not important. Apparently the ground was enchanted to be soft. But what was that? My spell didn't even affect you."

I replied with a shrug as if it was such a trivial thing.

"Magic resistance. It manifests itself very strongly in some hybrids. "I didn't know how strong it was though because I've never tested it until now."

John "Sounds like a useful thing. I'm sure this level of magic resistance is any hit wizard's and auror's wet dream."

After talking to John about magic resistance for a while, when he felt better, we continued the duel until the end of the lesson. While I did not suffer any significant damage thanks to my magic resistance, John was questioning life at the end of the lesson. Hitting him with various prank spells was incredibly relaxing. It helped me get rid of the tension and stress I had accumulated since reincarnation. Just like a punching bag, of course, if anyone were to ask me, I would deny outright that I was enjoying it. After class, we immediately headed towards the greenhouses to go to the next lesson, plant science. Unlike yesterday's schedule, today was quite tight. We also had to attend the plant science class until lunch. I couldn't complain though, I was only taking 10 lessons in total. There were two hours for each lesson per week. So, compared to the education system in my past life, it was quite light. Even on this very tight day, there were at most 6 lesson hours. While I was going to greenhouse number 3 for plant science, I remembered that some more dangerous plants were kept in that greenhouse. Apparently, we were going to step up the gear in plant science this year, just like in other courses. I was also curious to see how much Voxnaturae would help me in this regard, as plant science and the care of magical creatures seemed like the two areas that were expected to help me the most. When I saw the table prepared for us in greenhouse number 3, I had a hard time not to groan in distress. Because the view I saw was not pleasant at all. Mandrakes were arranged in front of us, one for each person. Last year, even though we were still dealing with baby mandrakes, 5 people in the class fainted. Really the common sense of wizards will kill me one day I wonder who thought it was a good idea to have plants in a school that would kill anyone who heard them. Everyone had an expression similar to mine on their face. After waiting a few minutes, professor Herbert Beery finally came into the classroom. After taking attendance, he began giving a speech that I think I've heard enough for this year. After a long conversation about what kind of changes the 3rd grade had brought in plant science, how we would now deal with more dangerous and deadly plants, and why any indiscipline would definitely not be allowed in the classroom, we finally started the lesson.

"Yes, class, don't stay away from the table like that. As I'm sure you all know, mandrakes don't eat you."

After the Professor's warning, the entire class, albeit reluctantly, moved a little closer to the table in the middle of the greenhouse.

"Now class, as far as you remember from last year, is there anyone who would like to tell me about the properties of mandrake?"

Anna Bones raised her hand from the front and asked for permission, and with the professor's approval, she began to explain the properties of mandrake.

"First of all, mandrake leaves are a necessary ingredient in the process of applying the animagus spell. Apart from this, the most common use of mandrake is in healing potions. Potions made from mandrakes are the most useful and most used potions in removing black magic curses. They were also used to protect some places in the past because the screams of mandrakes were deadly."

"10 points to Hufflepuff. Now I want you to repot the mandrakes standing in front of you. But remember, this year's mandrakes are bigger than last year's mandrakes, so their screams will do more than knock you out. Whatever you do, do not take off your headphones without giving me the signal. For those who have the misfortune of removing their headphones early or not turning them off completely, all I can say is that we have a pretty good healer at Hogwarts. "

After a few nervous laughs in the class, everyone started putting on their headphones. Professor Beery personally checked everyone's headphones and corrected those that were not attached properly. Then he asked us to repot the mandrakes as we learned last year. The moment we took the mandrakes out of the pots, I felt a wave of anger and confusion. It didn't take a genius to figure out that they weren't happy about being woken up. I don't know if I should say luck or voxnaturae. After screaming a few times, the mandrake in my hand suddenly calmed down and did not try to bite me like the others, while clearing the old soil from its roots. In this way, I was able to quickly clean its roots and place it in its pot. Since I had nothing to do, I started watching the class and I couldn't help but enjoy the scene where a group of little wizards and witches were trying to clean and repot the roots of the mandrakes that were doing everything to bite and hit them. It was both chaotic and entertaining. Well, you know what they say, long live chaos.

The chaos in the classroom continued for several more minutes. It was quite strange, a very chaotic scene was happening in front of my eyes, but I couldn't hear anything thanks to the headphones. After everyone placed the mandrakes in their new pots, the professor checked them one by one. So I pocketed the devil trap seeds I had just stolen from the shelves. Radagian told me that altering these seeds using an alchemy circle is fairly easy and can be used to create a massive wall of plants that will provide a last line of defense if the basilisk comes after you. An ideal measure for a last defense. Besides, it seems to be the only method I can do right now that has a chance of slowing down a thousand-year-old basilisk. Afterwards, while the professor started taking notes on the planting, cultivation and use of mandrake, the class hour passed quickly without any abnormal events. After class was over, I finally headed towards the great hall for lunch. I was starving to death. I attributed my eating so much to my half-giant physiology. Otherwise my own gluttony has nothing to do with it. There was a gap of about 1 hour after lunch. I spent this time wandering around the garden next to the big lake. Frankly, I feel sorry for Hagrid in the past. Thanks to my adult mind, I wasn't affected much by this loneliness, but as a child, he was quite sad as a result of all this exclusion. He didn't have any close friends. There were very few people like John who bothered to talk to him. Those who remained were divided into those who avoided him, as if he could go crazy and attack them at any moment, and those who had nothing to do with him. The only good thing about it was that no one tried to bully him. No wonder he loved magical creatures so much, he got along pretty well with them thanks to the voxnaturae, and they were the only ones who didn't judge him. After a little walk, I decided to go to the ancient runes class. I had nothing else to do. On my way to class, I tried to avoid deserted or uninhabited corridors as much as possible. Riddle and the basilisk may have made me a little paranoid. At least I wouldn't feel safe without preparing the devil trap that Radagian mentioned. Even when I was going for a run in the morning, I checked every corridor before entering it. I don't think Riddle will launch an attack in the first week, but it's better to be cautious and paranoid than sorry. Besides, in the world of magic, who does a little paranoia hurt?

The ancient rune class was like a normal class. There were no crazy man-eating plants and creatures. There was only a blackboard, a teacher's desk, and a few benches for students to sit on, though there was a door at the back of the classroom that probably led to some kind of workshop. There was another similar door in front of the classroom, probably leading to the professor's personal room. When class time came, it turned out that I was right and professor Arthur Anticrun entered the classroom. After taking attendance, he walked around the desks and started talking.

"Do any of you think that you are here to learn powerful ancient spells that will allow you to destroy mountains with a single move?"

A few people raised their hands, albeit hesitantly. The professor sighed in annoyance and continued his speech.

"You're going to be very disappointed in that situation because it's not going to happen in this class."

"Ancient runes are divided into two, the first is ancient alphabets and writings. Our work in this area will generally focus on translation. The second area is what we call runic magic. Our ancestors discovered in the past that various symbols and symbols, when written using magical energy or magical materials, could be used to influence their environment and perform magic. Thus, rune alphabets were born. Various civilizations created various alphabets. Runes are not used today to cast various spells, also called active magic. This is due to the time required to draw the runes and the difficulty in controlling them. For example, you can create sparks with the rune that means fire, and you can blow up Hogwarts. Compared to this, wand magic is not used much these days because it is faster and easier to control. "Does anyone have any questions?"

A Ravenclaw student from the front raised his hand. And with the permission of his professor, he started speaking. "In this case, in which areas are the runes used and which area will our training focus on?"

" Runes are used in many areas. These are used in the production of magic items, ward construction, Alchemy circles and even in rituals. When it comes to your education, there is no particular difference since the alphabets used in both fields are the same. However, this year we will focus on the properties of various rune alphabets and how to write them perfectly."

The professor took a break when another student took the floor. Guess who was speaking? Our dear lady Parkinson from Slytherin. As far as I remember, there was a Parkainson with a nose in the air in the books. Is it hereditary?

"So, professor, why are runes used in the production of magic items and wards when there are talismans? I mean, why use runes when there is a better alternative?"

"To explain, Miss Parkinson, it is not which is better, but which is more useful. Runes are more permanent and long-lasting. Also, if any of you have ever tried to enchant an object, you know what happens when you try to add two different enchantments to the same object. Yes, does anyone want to tell us what happened?"

A ravenclaw answered, raising his hand.

"It usually blows up."

I couldn't help but frown, so I tried a few things and got similar results. It was either blowing up, losing its effect after a while, or something ridiculous was coming out. I hope now I can understand why this is happening.

The professor began to explain with a small smile. "When two different talismans are made on an object, 3 results are generally encountered.

1- The object flies into the air.

2- The object shows a completely different effect than intended.

3- The object is cleared of all magical effects and becomes an ordinary object without magic.

The reason for this is that the energies originating from the talismans inside the object conflict with each other and mutate to achieve the effects just listed. To prevent this, a method called a talisman wheel is used, but even then the number of talismans that can be attached to an object is limited. That's why the best and most complex works are made by working together with rune masters, talisman masters, alchemists and even magic blacksmiths."

The professor continued speaking after waiting for a while for us to digest the new information.

"The first runic alphabet you will learn now is the elder futhark, which was generally used in the making of magical artifacts and elemental spells in the past."

With a wave of his hand, the cloth in front of the board was pulled away, revealing a group of runes written on the board.

While we were all breathless with this wandless magic show, the professor gave us our first task.

"You can begin drawing the runes from the board onto your scrolls. "Don't forget to leave a space next to the runes because you will need to write the descriptions of the runes next to them."

While we were trying to draw the runes for the rest of the lesson, he started walking around the classroom and helping us.

After the end of the lesson, Faye and I went out to the school garden for a while, walked around and had fun. Then I completed my daily routine and fell into the warm arms of sleep after a busy day.
