For a while, neither said a word.
They stared at each other, communicating silently through intense gazes.
Whatever unspoken words passed between them seemed grave, mirrored by their rigid and somber expressions.
Eventually, Bella broke the silence.
"You remember now, don't you?" she asked, her voice devoid of warmth. She sought closure, an end to his illusions; any reconciliation was out of the question.
"I do remember," Tristan said quietly, and a wave of relief washed over Bella—finally, he understood.
As she prepared to end the conversation, Tristan continued unexpectedly.
"Do you want to know the real reason why I divorced you?"
Bella's frown deepened, puzzled by his query. Didn't he remember his prior justification? He had claimed her inability to conceive was the issue.
She tried to read his eyes, suddenly wondering: 'Is there more to the story?'
Curiosity flickered within her, quickly suppressed.
