Chapter 12 - Skull, Twig

"Hey," Leon began, his voice carrying a mix of respect and youthful enthusiasm, "You've been helping me a lot, and you're going to be a big part of my life now. I think you should have a name, you know, something special that I can call you."

The skull, its ethereal glow steady in the dim light of the garden, seemed to consider Leon's words. "A name? I have never had one before. What do you suggest?"

Leon scratched his head, looking around the garden for inspiration. "Well, it should be something that fits this place and you... something that feels right for both the magic and the nature here."

"How about 'Twig'?" Leon suggested with a tentative smile, his eyes lighting up at the thought. "It's simple, nature-related, and kind of cute, don't you think?"

"Twig," the skull repeated, testing the name. "It does have a light, natural sound to it. But is it serious enough for a guardian of such a place?"

Leon laughed, a light, carefree sound that echoed slightly in the solemn atmosphere of the garden. "Maybe that's exactly why it's perfect! You help with all this serious, magical stuff, but you also make it less scary for me. You're kind of like a bridge between the grave and the garden. Twig is perfect—easy to remember and it makes me think of growth and life."

The skull paused, then its glow seemed to pulse softly, as if it were chuckling in its own, quiet way. "Twig, then. It is unconventional, but I find it... fitting. Thank you, Leon. I shall be Twig."

"Great! It's settled then, Twig," Leon said, a broad smile spreading across his face. "It's cool to have a friend and a guide like you. I think we're going to make a great team."

Twig, now christened with a name, seemed to radiate a warmer light. "Indeed, Leon. With your spirit and determination, and my guidance, there is much we can achieve together. Let us proceed with that strong bond, and bring life to this garden of death."

Their conversation, light-hearted yet full of the deep bond they were forging, marked a new chapter in Leon's mystical journey. Naming Twig not only gave the skull an identity but also reinforced Leon's connection to the Graveyard Garden, symbolizing his acceptance and readiness to embrace the challenges and wonders of his unique path.

Twig, now bearing a name and a renewed sense of purpose, began to instruct Leon on the nuances of navigating the Graveyard Garden, particularly on how to safely exit and re-enter the mystical plane.

"Leon, when you're ready to leave, you need to focus your mind on the boundary of this garden," Twig explained, its tone imbued with a gentle authority. "You will return to the mortal world exactly where you left it. However, you will also re-enter this place at the same spot you exit."

Leon nodded, understanding the importance of these instructions. "So, I should be careful about where I decide to leave from here, right?"

"Exactly," Twig confirmed. "Considering the seed you've planted today, it's likely that when you return, it could be surrounded by the insects it attracts. These insects could be dangerous, especially if you appear suddenly beside them."

Leon felt a chill at the thought of facing unknown, potentially hostile creatures right upon his return. "What should I do then, Twig?"

"I recommend that before you exit today, you move to a different part of this garden, away from the seed. Choose a spot that you can remember and that feels safe. This way, when you return, you will not immediately be in danger," Twig suggested thoughtfully.

"That makes sense. I'll find a good spot to exit and enter each time," Leon said, his young face set with determination as he scanned the garden for a suitable location.

"Additionally," Twig continued, "while you are away, I can remain invisible to any entities within this plane. I will monitor the progress of the seed and the activity around it. When you return, I can inform you of the situation, ensuring you are prepared before you approach the plant."

Leon's eyes widened with appreciation. "That would be really helpful, Twig! It's like having my own guardian angel here."

Twig's glow seemed to brighten at Leon's words. "Consider me your guardian of the garden, Leon. I will ensure that your journey here is as safe as possible."

Reassured by Twig's capabilities and strategic advice, Leon began to walk towards a quieter part of the garden, away from the freshly planted seed. He found a small, clear area that seemed peaceful, marked by a few gentle slopes and a scattering of soft, glowing moss. It felt like a safe threshold between the realms.

"This looks like a good spot," Leon decided, turning to Twig for confirmation.

"An excellent choice," Twig approved. "Remember this place. Each time you wish to enter or leave, this will be your gateway."

"Got it," Leon said, taking a deep breath as he prepared to return to the mortal world. "See you soon, Twig."

"Until tomorrow, Leon. Rest well, and prepare for your return," Twig replied, its voice echoing softly as Leon focused his thoughts on the boundary of the Graveyard Garden, feeling the familiar tug of the mortal realm pulling him back.

As he felt himself drifting away from the Graveyard Garden, Leon felt a mixture of excitement and apprehension about what awaited him upon his return. But the presence of Twig, his new ally and guide, gave him the confidence that he could face whatever challenges came next. With one last look at the serene garden, Leon closed his eyes and let the transition take him back to his sleeping body in Fangwood Hamlet.

When Leon awoke in the early morning light, he felt an unfamiliar surge of strength coursing through his body. It was a sensation that was both exhilarating and a bit overwhelming. As he stretched, his muscles responded with a vitality and power that were markedly different from anything he had experienced before. It felt as if his physical capabilities had tripled overnight, a change that left him both amazed and slightly bewildered.
