At the Hao residence, Ren's parents sat anxiously in the living room, their legs shaking nervously.
"Why hasn't our Yueyue arrived yet? What if something happened on the road? Should I call and check?" Quinn couldn't help but look towards Xavier.
"Come on, talking on the phone while driving can cause accidents too. It's just a trip home; I haven't seen you this worried before," Xavier waved his hand dismissively.
"How can you compare the two?" Quinn glared at Xavier, then huffed, "And did you forget how you stayed up until two or three in the morning worrying about your granddaughter? Worrying she wouldn't like you? Now you act as if it's nothing."
Xavier didn't respond, pretending to ignore her comment and started watching dance videos on his phone instead.
Just then, the sound of a car horn came from the yard.
Both hurried outside.
Through the gate, they saw a car they hadn't seen before parked at the entrance. Peeking through the car window, they could vaguely see their son's profile. The car door soon opened, and three people got out.
The elderly couple exchanged glances and quickly went to greet them.
"Old Dad, Old Mom, this is my... wife."
Previously, he had only referred to a future wife in private. Now, suddenly announcing Jada as his wife in front of his parents, Ren found it somewhat awkward.
This introduction made Quinn and Xavier's eyes immediately turn towards Jada, causing her to stiffen up, feeling almost suffocated by the nervousness, even though she knew she was pretending to be Ren's wife.
However, she managed to greet them politely without going blank, "Uncle, Auntie, hello."
Observing Jada, Quinn nodded internally. The woman had both looks and figure, and she was also a big boss of a company. How did their son manage to snag her?
"Oh, what a good girl," Quinn thought, her face breaking into a pleasant smile to make Jada feel more at ease, "But no need for 'Uncle' and 'Auntie,' it's too formal. Just call us Mom and Dad, or like this scoundrel here, 'Old Dad' and 'Old Mom.'"
Before Jada could respond, Quinn continued talking, setting the terms of address right there.
"...Dad... Mom..." Overwhelmed by Quinn's direct approach, Jada nervously complied, though part of her worried this was just part of their act.
"Ah!" Quinn exclaimed happily upon hearing the word 'Mom,' "So pretty! How did you fall for our son?"
Looking at Ren, she warned, "If you dare mistreat your wife, beware, I'll beat you!"
Then she turned back to Jada, "If he ever bullies you, just tell me! I'll set him straight!"
Confused and a bit lost, Ren protested, "Mom, am I not your own child?"
"Thank you, ah... Mom." Jada smiled.
"Granny, Granny! Do you know who I am?" The little girl, feeling ignored by the adults, suddenly interrupted.
Stepping in with her little round-toe shoes, she tried to make her presence felt.
Quinn scooped her up and playfully tickled her nose, "How could I not know my precious granddaughter?"
"Giggle." The little girl clung to Quinn's neck, her eyes darting around curiously.
She found everything unfamiliar and intriguing, unlike anything she had seen before.
"Yueyue, do you know who I am?" Noticing his granddaughter's attention all on his wife, Xavier felt left out. He hadn't even had a chance to hold her yet!
The little girl looked at Xavier, pondered for a moment, and said, "You're Grandpa!"
Then, eyeing his beard, she asked, "Grandpa, can I touch it?"
She had been curious about his beard ever since she walked in. She had begged her daddy to grow a beard before, but he never agreed.
Thinking this, the little girl pouted at Ren, confusing him with her stare.
"Sure, go ahead!" Xavier grabbed her hand and brought her close to his face.
"Giggle, it's so soft and fun!" The girl tugged at his beard, laughing joyously.
But children don't know their own strength. A sharp pull made Xavier cry out in pain.
The little girl quickly let go, retreating her hands in fear.
"Yueyue, you shouldn't do that. How can you pull Grandpa's beard?" Seeing this, Jada scolded her, "Apologize right now."
"Grandpa, I'm sorry..." The little girl timidly apologized, then performed a little charm she learned at kindergarten: "Ouch, ouch, fly away! The teacher said it helps!"
"It's okay, I've been thinking about shaving it off anyway," Xavier reassured her, though he quickly changed the subject, "Yueyue, are you hungry? Let's go eat. Your grandma made lots of delicious food."
Watching Xavier's awkward diversion, Quinn couldn't help but laugh. But she didn't undermine him and handed the girl back to Jada, "Girl, go inside first. I need to talk to your husband."
"Okay," Jada agreed, her heart slightly relieved.
It seemed her daughter's grandparents weren't biased against girls, a worry she had harbored before arriving.
"Mom." Left alone with Quinn, Ren felt apprehensive, "Why not just say it directly?"
"What do you mean 'directly'?" Quinn twisted his arm, her tone tinged with irritation, "What was all that about one night stands? Luckily she's a decent girl. What if she had been ill? What would you have done?"
Ren remained silent, knowing he had been too impulsive at the time.
"But... this turned out quite well," Quinn admitted she liked Jada, then glared at Ren, "I've set my heart on this girl for you. If you can't make it official with her, don't call me Mom anymore."
"And you better hurry up and have another child. But this time, the child should carry your surname."
Although she didn't prioritize sons over daughters, she cared about the family name.
