Millie's Pov
I could barely breathe, holding my stomach in pain as I felt his betrayal all over again as if it was that fated night.
The mark on my neck stung as I managed to drag myself to the bathroom, looking at my now irritated skin. I hissed as another sickening wave nearly brought me to my knees.
Felling sick and sore; I was surprised my inner Faye had not abandoned me even as I lay there writhing in pain. I blacked out on the bathroom tile; only the glimpse of the pregnancy test kit I had taken earlier held my gaze until I fell into blackness.
Present day
Year 2524 Illinois, USA
"Millie?" I heard my soon-to-be ex-husband say to me. I looked at his tall figure sitting behind his desk, looking at me with his amber-colored eyes, showing he had both just drank blood and no hint of remorse for what he had put me through only six months ago. Worse, he believed I had not known.
Due to some findings, I had managed to find out that he had used Faye repealing magic. However, this did not keep me fully out, as I was a half-ling, half-Faye, and half-human. The human part of me had felt everything he did to me with the woman who was now standing next to him, posing as his secretary.
"Oh, nothing, Luis; I just came here to discuss why I found divorce papers on your side of the bed."
The woman next to him, who I came to know simply as Gracie, looked shocked, her hazel eyes wide as she looked at Luis. Luis only smiled softly at me, though he did not think I already had an ace up my sleeve.
"Millie, I can explain if you sit down." Luis said to me.
I held the divorce documents over my swollen stomach. To my surprise and happiness, I had fallen pregnant two weeks before Luis's betrayal. That was the last time he touched or shared a bed with me.
"I'd rather not. Can we get on with this?" I asked.
Luis seemed shocked; I smiled as I sat and put the signed contract on his desk with a few added measures. I saw him pick it up and brush a hand through his wavy shoulder-length copper-blonde hair as he thumbed through the pages, stopping where I said my paperwork.
"You added conditions?" Luis asked his amber eyes slowly turning back to pale blue. I snickered at his audacity and would get my phone out of my purse, holding it out to him.
"I do have lawyers on retainer due to our first arrangement, remember Luis?" I said coldly; I barely looked at him as he flipped through the paperwork. Gracie seemed to be breaking out in a cold sweat. I eyed her down as she spoke to him.
"Lord Starlyn, I can take those to your lawyers this afternoon." I chuckled at them, making them look at me.
"Is something funny, Lady Starlyn?" asked Gracie. I nodded and pointed to the tall, curvy, chestnut-haired woman.
"Miss. Lakely? Now, why would I let my husband's mistress take our divorce filings to the lawyers? No, I will take them myself when I finish packing today." I said bluntly tired of the charade.
Growls erupted from Luis as he stood up, slamming the paperwork on the table.
"Are you accusing me of something, Millicent?!" Luis yelled, yet I barley blinked now at these antics.
I smirked and narrowed my green eyes at him.
"Accuse? I would never do that, though good thing you never expected me to set up my security cameras around the manor." I spat back at him.
Revealing this to him caused the color to drain from Luis's face.
"What were-cat got your tongue now?" I asked and sighed to Gracie, examining both of them.
"Do not worry dear, as soon as he signs those papers and our lawyers settle this. You can have him; I do not want a cheater as a husband or a chosen mate." I informed Gracie the woman who had been brought in from a FEMA Relief effort to our Colony just four days after I felt Luis cheat on me the first time. I held back tears as I dared not cry any longer for this man.
I looked at both of them, dug into my purse, and put a card on Luis's large desk.
"You can contact me through my lawyers, but if you excuse me, I will call movers now and have some of the servants help me pack."
I said, turning on my heel, wearing slip-on shoes as I walked off to what used to be our marital suite.
Calling the movers quickly I smiled as, they agreed to assist, as I paid them upfront using my credit card.
I mind-linked a few trusted servants and my assistant Serena to help me pack. I sat on the bed, waiting for them to arrive. Luckily, soon, servants appeared with boxes, and I helped them pack my belongings in them, pointing out what was mine.
Lifting my nose to the air, smelling the familiar scent of my soon-to-be ex. Faye creatures could smell our people, but not like wolves or vampires; instead, we smelled their energy or essence, and my ex's always smelled like wild blueberries.
"Luis, I know you are there." I said, not turning around, focusing on getting packed and checking my phone to see when Serena would text me that she had arrived at the gates.
"How did you know Millie?" I heard his deep voice ask. I sighed and noticed the servants glancing at us as they moved my items to the moving truck outside.
"Because you forgot, I am not a normal Faye Luis; I felt that when you cheated on me with her..and her energy smells like yours more than mine does now, and you expected me just to accept it?!" I shouted, putting my hand on my stomach as it was protruding out of the blue sundress I put on today, to give no one the suspicion anything was wrong.
Luis rubbed his face and looked at me with pain in his eyes.
"I thought I had put down enough Faye barriers, so you would be spared, Millie. But you do not understand Gracie..she is a vampire like me and my second-chance mate."
Rage boiled in my veins.
"That does not mean you slept with her when you first met her, you idiot!"
I yelled at him, not hearing anyone walk upstairs to where we were in the manor. Soon, we smelled a familiar scent of peppermint.
The smell was followed by my personal assistant's voice.
"Lady Staryln?" Serena called up the stairs to us.
I stroked my long, golden-bronze curly hair to calm myself enough to answer.
"In here, Serena!"
I yelled and turned my attention to Luis, who seemed lost in thought.
"I am sorry. I ..just ...." I held a finger up to him as I shook my head.
"You do not have to explain to me, Luis. However, before I leave, I do need to reject you. You cannot keep your hands off her even though I carry your heir." I stated even though after everything I was choking back tears.
I saw Serena peer in as she stood in the doorway.
"Serena, if I faint, please call the colony's doctor..and have me transported quickly."
I saw her nod as she approached me, her gray eyes filled with worry as I looked at Luis.
"I, Millicent Jonquilla Starlyn, birthed as Millicent Jonquilla Birchwood, reject you,
Luis Ulfric Starlyn, Elder Vampire heir of the Starlyn Vampire bloodline and acting Alpha and Lord Vampire of the Starlyn Vampire Colony. I denounce my position as the acting Luna and Lady of the Rosemoon Vampire Colony and Elder vampire in waiting of the Starylyn Vampire bloodline." I announced.
A wave of electricity struck me as Serena ran to me, catching me. I looked at Luis, who was now falling to his knees, holding his chest. I could see a few servants run to him as he looked at me and spoke through gritted teeth.
"I, Luis Ulfric Starlyn, Elder Vampire heir of the Starlyn Vampire bloodline and acting Alpha and Lord Vampire of the Starlyn Vampire Colony, accept Millicent Jonquila Starlyn's rejection."
I feel the last bit of the electricity band that held us together snap, causing me to collapse into Serena. As I faded into the blackness, all I could hear was people screaming for a doctor.
