Chapter 11 - In The Palace

I should've known it wouldn't be easy to convince Gwen to leave without me, her supposed daughter. She vehemently refused to leave without me, insisting that it was way too dangerous for me to stay back on my own, seeing as we had no house, no friends, and no money.

"I'm not gonna be changing my mind, Rina." She said for the hundredth time tonight, hands folded and lips pursed.

Gwen believed her dear daughter was being too ridiculous at this point. How did she think Gwen would ever agree to leave without her? Gwen would rather die before leaving her daughter behind in this cursed kingdom, a daughter whom she almost lost, but a miracle thankfully came through at the last minute. Leaving her behind is the last thing she'd ever do.

As Rina took in the determined look on Gwen's face, she decided within herself that it was pointless to keep attempting to convince Gwen to leave without her.

The day was already starting to darken. Rina had planned that after providing a horse, she'd send Gwen off, then set off to the palace to spill some blood. However, from the looks of things, Gwen was about to ruin her plans, but Rina was determined to not let that happen.

And so, she got to her feet and began to exit the cave. Gwen was quick to demand where she was going.

"To go find some fruits." Rina responded as she walked out.

The plan had materialized in her head moments ago, and she was about to execute it. The plan entails finding a leaf with sleeping proportions in it and rubbing it into a fruit which she'd present to Gwen, and once Gwen eats it, she'd go straight to sleep, then Rina would be able to sneak to the palace to get on with her plans,

She wasn't sure if she'd be returning to the cave after tonight, or if she'd find her way from there and forget about Gwen.

As Rina looked through the bush for said leaf, she realized that she didn't really know what the leaf looked like, which was because she had never had to find them herself before, that was left to the maids. In her past life, all she had to do was to grab a sleeping pill and that was it.

It took a little while for Rina to find the leaf. As she regarded it closely, she silently hoped that it wasn't a wrong leaf.

There's only one way to find out.

Rina picked some fruits and went back to the cafe, she handed Gwen a handful, which have all been rubbed with water of the sleeping leaves.

Gwen began to munch on the fruits almost immediately and Rins watched her closely, silently hoping for it to be the correct leaf. For a moment, she wondered if the leaf hasn't been something harmful.

"These fruits taste bitter." Gwen mumbled after a few moments and Rina stifled a snort, silently willing for Gwen to fall asleep almost immediately.

After about ten minutes, Gwen began to dose off and Rina silently patted herself on the back. Moments later, Gwen had fallen into a deep slumber and Rina was on her feet at once, whooping the air in relief.

She positioned Gwen's body properly and stared at her for a moment longer before exiting the cave. As she grabbed the horse which she got through gambling, she felt a little sorry for Gwen because she knew Gwen might not see her ever again, and she was aware of how much Gwen loved her.

She began to ride towards the palace, but fell off the horse a handful of times.

Rina had forgotten that she couldn't control a horse. With a sigh, she led the beast back to the tree it had been previously tied to and returned it to its old status.

At least now that she wouldn't be taking the horse with her, Gwen would be able to use the horse in traveling all the way to her family's house.

Rina then began to make her way towards the palace. She made sure to grab an unsuspecting woman's shawl and used it to wrap her shoulders and half of her face.

No one paid her any heed on the road, because they assumed she was just a traveler.

As she got to the palace, she touched her hair and confirmed that the hairpin shaped object was still there, and then she decided within herself that she wouldn't be able to go through the large entrance of the palace, because unlike when she was still the crowned princess and could walk into the palace whenever she wanted to, now she couldn't because she knew they'd attack her. Taking them in a fight wasn't the problem here. The problem was the fact that fighting with the guards was only gonna announce her presence, and that was the last thing she wanted.

Rina wanted to catch the people she wanted to kill offguard. She was certain Sinclair would currently be at the palace, that was where he spends most these days, claiming it's for important meetings with the rest of the royal court members and the king, but I knew they were definitely fucking some innocent girl together like they sick fucks they all are.

Rina then took a turn from the side of the palace, searching for an entrance which was void of guards.

Most parts of the palace were filled with guards, but Rina ended up sighting a tree outside the palace, but the top of the tree was bent over the fence, leading straight into the compound of the palace.

That was the perfect opening for Rina and after confirming that she didn't get followed, she secretly climbed the tree, wincing when her limbs kept connecting with the branches. On getting to the edge of the fence, she slid across the edge before glancing left and right, and then she carefully climbed down the fence, dropping to the ground as silently as she could.

Although, the drop still made a little sound, and at once, the two guards positioned a few inches away turned around at once, eyes locked on Rina in a flash.

'Fuck.' Rina cursed underneath breath as she rose to her feet, legs spreading and tensing on the ground as the two guards charged at her, sword pointed at her.

She evaded the first sword, delivering a punch straight to his throat and nose. He groaned, sounding choked before dropping to his knees, sword clattering to the ground, creating more noise and making Rina curse once again as she hurriedly ducked when the second guard swiped his sword at her, missing her head by a few inches.

In her crouched position, she evaded a knee meant for her face and delivered a series of blows to his crotch and he hunched down at once, sword clattering to the ground before tumbling to the ground as well, spilling out groans of pain.

Before Rina could heave a sigh of relief, four guards appeared from the same direction the first two previously had. It was clear that they had heard the sounds of people fighting, thanks to those dumb guards for creating that noise.

"Who the hell are you?!" One of them thundered and I scoffed before picking up one of the two swords lying on the ground.

"Why don't you come find out, huh?"
