Chapter 51 - 1. 51. Engaged No More (Part 4)

While Wang Haoran was frantically searching for Leah, Zhao Bolin was dealing with Li Mei's uneasiness, agitation, and dangerous behaviors towards herself and others.

The in-house doctor and nurse tried to pacify Li Mei, but their efforts only irritated her more.

"Where is he?!" She shouted across the room.

"Haoran, where are you?!" She asked aloud.

Her agitated voice echoed outside as well. Li Mei had overheard the conversations between Wang Haoran and Liu Leah. She was pleased that the engagement would be broken, but at the same time, she knew that Wang Haoran needed Liu Leah for the sake of their future family's happiness and peaceful life.

She didn't hear the promise Wang Haoran made to Liu Leah, but she knew he was going after her, which triggered her outburst. The nurse called Wang Haoran to inform him, but when he didn't answer, she tried Zhao Bolin and managed to connect with him.

Li Mei's plan worked; she heard the two men rush out and then suddenly stop. She heard them moving again before the signal cut off in the parking lot, prompting her to call Wang Haoran.

Li Mei waited patiently for Wang Haoran to return to the villa after her call was answered, but her wait was in vain. The person who came knocking on the door was Zhao Bolin.

"Where is he?" she demanded, her eyes wide and teary, her teeth gritted.

"You see, he—" Zhao Bolin began, but Li Mei cut him off and threw an empty cup at the door near him.

"Miss, calm down. You have to think of the babies," Aunt Hi interjected, followed by the nurse.

"The more stressed you are, the more strained your body gets, which could cause problems for you and the baby," the nurse added.

While the nurse and Aunt Hi tried to calm Li Mei, Zhao Bolin spoke with the doctor.

"Sir, are you alright?" the female doctor asked Zhao Bolin, who walked towards her. She was shocked that the pale, pregnant, weakened Li Mei could throw a cup across the room.

"I'm fine. How is she?" Zhao Bolin asked while worriedly looking at Li Mei's direction.

"Sir, she has become more easily agitated because of her pregnancy. We offered her calming medications, but she refused to take them. However, the more stress she experiences, the higher the chances she will develop complications during her pregnancy," the doctor pointed out.

"Talking to her helps for now, but the more she focuses on what causes her stress, the harder it is to soothe her," the doctor added.

"Thank you, doc." Zhao Bolin shifted his gaze from Li Mei to the doctor and nodded to express his understanding. He then walked toward Li Mei, who had calmed down.

"I'm sorry, Bolin. I didn't know what came over me. Are you alright?" Li Mei immediately apologized when she noticed Zhao Bolin approaching.

With tolerance in his gaze, Zhao Bolin replied, "I am fine. How are you and the babies feeling?"

Li Mei calmly answered, looking at Zhao Bolin with a worried expression and a reluctant smile. Suddenly, her expression shifted to anxiety. "We are fine—wait, where is Haoran?"

Zhao Bolin spoke quickly to calm her immediately. "After the cancellation of his engagement with Liu Leah, much work needs to be done. I don't think he will come home tonight."

Everyone in the room looked at Zhao Bolin. "Ahem—" he cleared his throat, noticing their gazes.

All of them did not know that Liu Leah had canceled the engagement today with Wang Haoran. They want to ask more, but this is a sensitive topic. Anyways, they will be able to know today or tomorrow. The Liu Family will publicly announce it on their official site and social media, just like when the Liu Conglamurate's one and only princess got engaged first with Wang Haoran.

"What about the phone? Why can't I see and hear him?" she asked again.

Expecting this question, Zhao Bolin brought out Wang Haoran's phone, which he used to receive video calls from Li Mei.

"What happened?" Li Mei exclaimed in surprise, looking at the broken phone in pieces.

"Did you guys have an accident?" she asked, looking Zhao Bolin up and down.

"No—no, the phone just fell while we were on the road, and another car ran over it." Waving his hands to indicate a misunderstanding, Zhao Bolin explained what happened in one breath.

Li Mei furrowed her brows in doubt, but she wanted to believe that Zhao Bolin and Wang Haoran would never lie to her. She then nodded after looking Zhao Bolin in the eyes.

That evening in Wang Haoran's villa was chaotic. Zhao Bolin and the others spent their time entertaining Li Mei while constantly calling Wang Haoran.

Eventually, Li Mei tired herself out and went to sleep after dinner.

While Aunt Hi was cleaning the table and the kitchen, Zhao Bolin spoke with the doctor. Meanwhile, the nurse watched over Li Mei as she slept.

Going back to that lunchtime, as Leah, led by Zed and followed by Zhou Chun, left the room, she suddenly opened the door to the adjacent room. She went inside and sat down comfortably.

Before Wang Defu and Wang Haoran figured out her whereabouts, she gestured for the surprised Zhou Chun to come in, as Zed was already seated next to Leah, sitting casually.

Zhou Chun rushed into the room and was about to turn around when she heard the door close behind her. Realizing what had happened, she joined Leah and Zed at the table.

"What are we doing here, Miss? I didn't know you owned two rooms here," she asked Leah with a questioning look.

"To have lunch, of course. I just bought this room's one-month ownership from a kid who desperately needed money," Leah replied with a mysterious smirk.

Still looking at Leah, Zhou Chun's questioning face shifted to a serious one. "Miss, I have something to tell you about what you said earlier—."

Leah was listening to Zhou Chun, but Zhou Chun suddenly stopped talking. Leah was then forced to look up at Zhou Chun, who still had a complicated look on her face.

"Go on... Why are you pausing in the middle while making a serious face?" Leah moved her gaze from Zhou Chun to the tablet for ordering.

Zhou Chun nervously continued, "Miss, your parents forcefully canceled all the cooperation you made happen between the Wang Family and the Liu Family after Wang Haoran hit you with an ashtray and you got hospitalized."

"That's very specific. Is there anything else?"

"They said it is irreversible even if you beg them, but they won't stop you from creating another cooperation for Wang Haoran's company and the Wang Family."

"I would never do anything for Wang Haoran and the Wang Family and prefer that we never cross paths again. Why don't you change all my and my parents' contact information? I don't want anything to do with them from now on."

Sigh—

Zhou Chun sighed loudly. "I thought the Young Miss would go back to being in love with Wang Haoran and would do anything to get his attention again."

Leah continued, "Why don't you let everyone in the Liu conglomerate, from top to bottom, know that the Liu Family will have nothing to do with the Wang Family, especially Wang Haoran? Additionally, send this message to Wang Defu and Wang Haoran."

Leah then dropped the ordering tablet and took out her phone. She typed something and sent the message to Zhou Chun.

Gasp!

Receiving the message, Zhou Chun gasped and almost dropped her phone.

"Send it to me." Noticing the assistant's reaction, Zed commanded.

Seeing Zed's darkening expression, Leah said, "Calm down. I will send it to you now." She sent the same message and then looked at Zed, who was not doing any better after reading it.

"I will deal with them myself. Do not do anything besides being by my side."

"But—" Zed was silenced by Leah's determined expression as she held his arm.

"Fine. Just let me know if you need any help."

"I will," Leah answered solemnly, still gazing at Zed.

She let Zed go and started ordering food, but Zed took the tablet away from her.

"Don't forget our wager. I made you lunch. Mr. Lee is bringing it now," Zed explained while Leah pouted, watching the tablet being handed to Zhou Chun.

"Miss Zhou, why don't you order? Leah and my lunch is on its way."

Zhou Chun nodded with a dumbfounded expression and took the tablet. She decided to avoid getting between the two to get this lunch done. She had just sent the message from Leah to Wang Defu and Wang Haoran, but she had a lot of work to do after the dissolution of the engagement. The content of the email she received and forwarded reminded her that she must focus on removing the Wang Family's influence from Liu Leah's inner circle.

That lunchtime was enjoyable for the three.
