Gerald walked into the house. The heavy silence of the empty house welcomed him as the door clicked shut behind him. He was aware of what was going to happen next. It was only a matter of time.
He hesitantly called out, "Sussana," but there was silence in response. He knew she had heard him; she was just waiting.
As he stepped forward once more, Susanna materialized at the top of the stairs, her face twisted in rage. As she descended the wooden steps, her heels clattered loudly, and her eyes fixed on Gerald like a hawk on its prey.
"Where have you been?" she hissed. "You sold the cars? Without telling me? What were you thinking, Gerald?"
Gerald sighed and rubbed his temples. "It was for the company. We're leaving soon anyway—"
"Leaving?" Susanna cut him off, her voice rising to a near scream. "You decide on that without asking me? Do you really think that I will be cool with you starting over and selling everything one day? Have you lost your mind?"
