The only thing Melissa knew how to do was exploit the public for her gain, but she hadn't expected Paula to retaliate in such a manner. Now she was nursing a sprained ankle.
Melissa watched as her mother spoke harshly to her father on the phone, a sense of relief washing over her despite her annoyance. She still had her parents by her side, while Paula would forever be alone with her mother gone.
"She almost killed my daughter!" Sussana yelled into the phone, pacing to and fro in the hospital room. "You better do something, honey, or do you want me to handle her myself!"
Melissa couldn't hear her father's side of the conversation, but she knew he was likely telling her mother to calm down and that he would resolve everything.
