Paula sat at her desk, her laptop open, fingers flying over the keyboard.
Winter was overly engrossed in his own world, nearby, using his Legos to construct an elaborate structure.
"Mommy, look! I'm making a spaceship!" Winter called out, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Paula glanced over and smiled. "That's wonderful, Winter. It looks amazing!"
As she returned her focus to her work, her phone rang, cutting through the quiet hum of the room.
She looked at the screen and saw David Alesso's name flashing.
She hesitated for a moment, taking down a deep breath.
They had not been conversing as much after that incident. David was so busy with his work and Paula didn't want to disturb him. Put another way, she did not want her presence to interfere with his work.
"Hello, David."
"Paula, hi. I hope I'm not disturbing you," David's voice was tentative but urgent, which piqued Paula's interest.
