Paula sat back in her chair, her fingers lightly tapping against the smooth surface of the table. As Gerald put down his phone after making another call to someone she assumed to be his wife, she observed him intently, her eyes cool but analytical.
She laughed a little, almost in an amused way. "So, aren't you going to tell them about the company?"
Gerald met her gaze, a glint of annoyance passing over his features. "That's none of your business, Paula," he shot back, his voice harsh and clipped.
Paula's smile did not change in response to his tone. "Of course," she replied evenly, letting the conversation drift. There was no point in pushing him. Instead, she shifted her attention to the papers sitting in front of him. "Did you even bother to read through the documents you're about to sign?"
