Chapter 5 - Who saved Grace?

(A month later)

"Good morning" Miranda and a nurse greeted me as they entered the room.

"Good morning" I replied back to them.

The other nurse went away but Miranda stayed behind, her face all smiles just as it has always been whenever she attends to me.

My days in the hospital after I had regained consciousness would have been quite hard on me, if not for her. My muscles lost their strength because I've laid too long in bed, so I had to go through some physical therapy, which hasn't been easy on me. I wasn't able to feed myself for the past weeks because I couldn't lift a spoon, I couldn't even do a single thing, but recently,I've been able to walk on my own and explore the surroundings of the hospital with Miranda's help. I've gotten quite acquainted with her and some other few doctors who seem to dote on me more than the other patients.

Miranda had told me that in the hospital, so much attention like mine is only given to the upper-class VIP (VVIP), which I am. It's quite surprising to find out my savior belongs to the class of these sets of people. The way these people treat me…I've never been treated with so much class and respect my entire life.

I sat upright on my buttocks and Miranda helped to rest my back against the pillow. She started with her normal routine of changing my IV bag, checking some operations of the machines, and giving me my pills, which is accurate every fifteen minutes after my breakfast. She has never been earlier or late.

"Good morning, Miss Lambert" Nurse Corinth and Nurse Lisa, the nurses in charge of the VVIP room next to mine, chorused together.

"Good morning" I replied to them, and they continued on their way. I could hear the sounds of their giggles as they went down the passageway. This is starting to get unusual, why am I getting awkward greetings from everyone today?

There were days when I used to be very happy greeting people, and that was back in the days when I still lived with my family. I would be the first to greet everyone in the neighborhood the moment I got out of the house and start my walk to the school I taught, most of the oldies would always compliment how I looked pretty with my smiles on, and even if I had by chance, forgotten to greet any of my neighbors that passed me by, they would call to my attention by greeting me first, the population in the school I worked in greatly increased after I started working in there. I had a very close relationship with almost everyone in my neighborhood. I can't believe it's the same me that finds these people greeting awkwardly. Well, it was unusual because they wouldn't check into my room just to send their greetings to me on a normal day, they only did if we by chance passed each other along the way in the hospital.

"Do you know what day today is?" Miranda asked

"The day I get out of these wraps" I replied stating the obvious and she chuckles

"You didn't hear the news?" She asked

"Well, I am not a fan of listening to news"

"Mr Vanderbilt came back from China yesterday. Even the paper carried his leaked pictures from the airport."

"So?" I replied unconcerned about the information she just rendered

"He will be here to see you… today. And that is why you've been receiving strange attention from the nurses, they all know he will be here today. He came back from China yesterday, and you are the first he would love to see, isn't that cool?"

"Who is he and why would he want to see me?" I asked Miranda

"Because he is your savior, Miss Grace. Isn't it right he would want to see you after Eleven months?"

So he is the one that saved me. The person I've been longing to see all these while, is him?

"What did you call his name again" I asked Miranda

"Mr. Vanderbilt" she replied, and gasped afterward as the sudden realization of what she had just said hit her, she covered her lips with her fingers and quivered

"Please, you must not mention any of this to Mr Louis or I will lose my job, you have to promise me" she pleaded

"I won't say a word" I promised her.

So it's Mr Vanderbilt, that's the name of the Man who had saved me, I haven't heard of his name before, and definitely, I haven't met him either.

The realization that I would finally get to see him excited me and at the same time made me feel uneasy.

"I still can't believe you know nothing about him. Everyone is going crazy out there about getting to see him in a few hours."

"Is he that famous?" I asked her

"You are kidding me, right? He is not just a successful businessMan, he is also popular for his pretty face and manly features"

"You haven't seen him before?" I asked her

"I did. The night you were bought in here and girl trust me.. I have never seen any Man as good-looking as him. There is no word good enough to describe him." Miranda said excitedly.
