Emily's POV
I was worried Ethan hadn't come back yet. It was past 1 o'clock, and he still wasn't home. I knew I shouldn't care - he wasn't my husband, after all. But I couldn't shake feeling unease. I hoped he was safe, wherever he was. I was worried something bad had happened to him.
He had been so harsh to me in the office, but I still cared about him. I paced back and forth in the sitting room, watching the enormous clock on the wall. Each minute that ticked by felt like an eternity. I panicked.
On top of everything else, I was scared. There were no maids or chefs in the mansion. He had told them all to take a break. I wondered why he had done that.
It was unlike him to be so kind to the staff. Something about the whole situation felt off. I got a bad feeling about what might have happened to him.
The house was so big, and every move I made seemed to echo around me. The silence was deafening.
