Mu Mian woke up the next day still very weak. She could only drink a bit of porridge and lay in bed, unable to move. In the dead of the night, Gong Heng went out for some errands and said he would be back in half an hour. He had barely left when the door to the ward was pushed open and Xue Ye tiptoed in. Seeing her awake, he said, "Hey, I've come to see you again."
A rare smile finally appeared on Mu Mian's face as he sat by her bed, looking at her whole weakened body that had grown noticeably thinner; it pained his heart.
"I'm sorry, I should have arranged for someone to protect you. I shouldn't have left you alone."
She chuckled lightly, "I didn't even know someone wanted to kill me, so how could you have known? Besides, even Gong Heng didn't find that place, so it was unexpected for the assassin to find it either. Don't blame yourself like this."
Xue Ye stroked her hair, "You really are... so considerate it hurts."
Mu Mian responded with a smile.
