Chapter 1 - One

Scarlett's POV

The sky looked ominous as I ran through the narrow path leading to the Pack's square. The air was heavy with tension, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something bad was about to happen. I quickened my pace, my heart pounding in my chest.

As I approached the square, I heard Bryton's voice calling out to me. Fear gripped me as I realized he was getting closer. I knew he had been after me ever since he found out about my unique abilities. He believed that I was a threat to his power and wanted to eliminate me.

"Let me go!" I shouted, desperately trying to break free from his grasp. But his grip only tightened, and I could see the wicked grin on his face. He raised a sharp knife, its blade glinting under the moonlight.

In that moment, time seemed to slow down. I could see the knife coming towards me, aimed at my heart. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the pain that was about to come.

But instead of feeling the blade pierce my skin, I heard the sound of morning bells ringing. Confused, I opened my eyes and found myself in my bedroom. The vision had been just that, a vision of a possible future.

Sweat covered my body, and my heart was still racing. I realized that I had been holding my breath and let out a shaky exhale. The morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow in the room.

"That was too close," I muttered to myself, grateful that it had only been a vision. I slowly got out of bed, my legs still feeling weak from the intensity of the experience. I steadied myself and looked out the window, hoping to find solace in the bright morning sky.

But instead of the peaceful scene I expected, all I saw was darkness. It felt suffocating, as if the shadows were closing in on me. The pain in my heart resurfaced, and the image of Bryton twisting the knife inside me flashed in my mind.

I gasped, feeling a surge of panic. The vision had felt so real, so vivid. I knew I had to do something to prevent that future from happening. Bryton was my mate, but I couldn't let him destroy me.

Determined to change my fate, I quickly got ready for the day. I had a job at a restaurant outside the pack, and I needed to leave soon. As I rushed out of the house, I hoped that being away from the pack would keep me safe from Bryton's reach.

Hours passed, and I finally finished work. Exhausted, I made my way back home, my feet dragging on the dusty road. The sun had already set, and darkness enveloped the surroundings.

As I approached my house, I noticed a commotion nearby. People were running around, holding colorful ornaments. It seemed like there was a festival happening in the pack. I hurriedly made my way inside, not wanting to get caught up in the chaos.

"Dad, I'm home!" I called out, not expecting a response. My father had been distant ever since my mother's death, drowning his sorrows in alcohol. But to my surprise, he answered.

"You're home," he said, his voice filled with enthusiasm. I turned to face him, seeing a glimmer of brightness in his eyes. It was a rare sight, and I couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope.

"What's happening, father?" I asked, curious about his sudden change in demeanor.

"It's the annual assembly tonight," he exclaimed, a hint of excitement in his voice. "Many Alphas will be visiting our pack, including the most mysterious Alpha of all time."

My heart skipped a beat at his words. The most mysterious Alpha? The one I had been searching for? This was my chance to finally meet him, to find the answers I had been seeking.

Without wasting another moment, I dashed to my room and quickly changed into a fresh set of clothes. I couldn't contain my excitement as I hurriedly made my way to the pack's entrance. I needed to find Axel, the mysterious Alpha, before Bryton could reach him.

But as I walked, I caught a whiff of Bryton's scent in the air. Panic surged through me, and I knew I had to avoid him at all costs. I spotted a dark spot nearby and quickly hid, hoping to go unnoticed.

Bryton was talking to a group of people, his eyes scanning the area. I could feel the mate pull between us, the undeniable connection that bound us together. I held my breath, praying that he wouldn't sense my presence.

But it was too late. His gaze locked onto mine, and I could see the recognition in his eyes. The murderous expression on his face made my blood run cold. I knew that my time was running out, and I had to find a way to escape.

As Bryton started moving towards me, I felt a surge of fear and desperation. I couldn't let him catch me, couldn't let him fulfill the dark destiny that awaited us. With every ounce of strength I had, I turned and ran, disappearing into the night.

Two minutes had gone by, and I felt like I had died and resurrected. I knew Bryton should be before me now. Why was he not doing anything? Why isn't he trying to kill me? Also, I could not smell him anymore.

Immediately, my eyes snapped open, and I saw that Bryton had stopped in his tracks. I saw him turn the other way, and I breathed a sigh of relief. My heart settled in its place, but then I knew something was wrong. I could feel a presence around me, even though I could not smell anything.

My head snapped backward, and I was met with a handsome man. My eyes widened as I realized who was behind me. How the heck did he get here? He was Axel, the strongest and most mysterious Alpha, and he had a mischievous smirk on his face.

It felt as if my whole body was frozen, and my eyes trailed to look at his hand. He had a bottle of liquid in his hand, and I could recognize that liquid anytime. It was some liquid that helped to hide a wolf's smell, and I knew he had spread it all over the ground. No wonder Bryton stopped in his tracks. He could not smell me anymore.

"He's the one!" I heard my wolf scream in my head. "He saved us from that useless Alpha. Axel is our protector," she added, and I could feel my wolf's excitement.

"Don't be overexcited, Kyra," I said to my wolf, while my eyes were glued to Axel. "He is said to be mysterious and eccentric, and no one dares to go close to him. He might not help us," I said to her, and I could feel my wolf whine in dejection.

Alpha Axel was old enough to get his mate; however, he was still lonely. It's no wonder he would be eccentric and irritable.

We had been staring at each other for a long time, and Axel had to break the staring contest. "Why are you hiding from your Alpha?" he asked me. His voice was deep and powerful, and I could feel shivers run down my spine. "Did you make a mistake?" he added as he stared intently at me.

His stare caused me to go into a daze as my eyes widened, and in the next second, he gasped. "Your eyes!" he said, in a slightly loud tone. The surprise on his face was evident. I knew he had never seen anything like my eyes before.

"He is about to call me a freak too," I said to myself with a dejected sigh. However, in the next second, I was shocked to my bones at his words. I did not think anyone would compliment me that way. "You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen," he said, and I could see the entranced look in his eyes. If he could touch them and pluck them out to keep and cherish, I knew he would.

I could see the sincerity on his face, and I realized he was not lying. My heart opened up to him at this moment, and I poured out my secrets. "My eyes are not just ordinary," I said suddenly, and he arched a brow at me. "I have the ability to see the future," I added.

With my words, I gained confidence, and I stood up to my feet. "I could help you accomplish your goals," I offered with a confident smile on my face. Axel had a skeptical look in his eyes as he looked at me. I knew he did not believe any of my words. How would a little girl like me help him? This would be the question in Axel's head.
