Eisley pushed open the restroom door. Her heart pounding in her chest. The moment she stepped inside, she tore off her mask, gasping for air as if she'd been holding her breath for hours. Her reflection in the mirror stared back at her.
"Oh God, Eisley," she murmured to herself, her voice barely audible over the hum of the restroom's fluorescent lights. "Focus, Eisley! This isn't about him, there's no time to give into his tricks." Her words were a desperate plea to keep her emotions in check.
After a few deep breaths, she straightened her dress, smoothing out the creases with trembling hands, and carefully placed her mask back on.
As she pushed the door open, the cool air of the hallway hit her, and she froze.
Irwin stood there, his piercing green eyes locking onto hers, intensively and made her heart skip a beat. "I thought you would never make it out," he drawled, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
