Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine: Is He Really a Genius?

At noon, a blue sedan drove along the outskirts of the road.

As they got further from Lundan, the road deteriorated, but overall, it was much better than Wayne had anticipated, mainly due to the fresh air, which was a hundred times better than the polluted air in the city.

It would have been even better if it weren't winter.

The sedan was purchased from a used car market. Wayne was commissioned by Dr. Laina to investigate used cars and found many flaws in this car dealership. After some intimidation and persuasion, the dealer recommended this sedan, which was eighty percent new, to appease the queen's face.

The boss didn't mention whose name the vehicle was registered under, and Wayne didn't ask. He knew Veronica didn't like civilian cars, and it was destined to be a disposable item. Following the principle of everything from speed, it only took half an hour to complete the vehicle purchase.

Compared to the civilian cars Wayne had seen in his "previous life," the configuration of this four-seater blue sedan was very simple, with only one dashboard on the console and no radio.

Part of the car body was made of wood, and the rear of the car was designed with double doors, with a very spacious trunk that could fit a lot of things.

Although it was simple, it was indeed eighty percent new. The car headlights were very bright, the engine ran smoothly, the gearbox was reliable, and there were no strange odors inside. It only took a moment to start the engine and get going.

Wayne drove the car out of the dealership, purchased a batch of supplies as requested by Veronica, and also prepared two barrels of gasoline, two boxes of drinking water, and varying amounts of canned food, chocolates, and compressed biscuits.

Veronica's intention was to go and come back quickly, capture Blood Mack, and lift the curse, then leave Calphurno Town without staying too long. Everything should go smoothly, and they could return to Lundan that night.

What she said made sense, so Wayne purchased a large amount of supplies just to be safe.

Veronica was responsible for driving. As a young driver, she had no worries about poverty, so her driving skills were very proficient.

In contrast, William's driving skills in the passenger seat were simply indescribable. He had a driver's license, a hard requirement for university students. Without a license, graduation was impossible. It took him two years of back and forth to finally get it.

In the back seat were Wayne and the black cat Monica. Originally, Veronica wanted Wayne to drive, but Monica, the teacher, had to give lectures, so the young lady became the dedicated driver for this trip.

"Don't be in a hurry. The seed of magic cannot be achieved overnight. It's more like guidance and inheritance, unless you're a genius..."

Seeing Wayne a bit eager to succeed, Monica consoled him and detailed the basics of all extraordinary powers - magic.

Magic was the lever to unlock the extraordinary. Without magic, nothing could be discussed.

For ordinary people to obtain magic and become an entry-level magician or apprentice, the relatively gentle way was meditation.

With connections, one could have a mentor guide the way. For example, the magic seed Monica planted for Wayne was one of those guiding methods.

The radical way was to follow the path of believing in the extraordinary, to please the gods and obtain powerful magic.

The former progressed slowly, and many people got stuck at this stage, consuming a lot of time. The latter, although progressing quickly, was far from peaceful and safe as the former.

After all, in the eyes of believers, all other gods were heretics, evil, and hypocritical. Only the god they believed in was the eternal light of righteousness.

Through the processing and oral tradition of the believers, ninety-nine percent of the gods were fabricated, and ordinary people were blindfolded when choosing their beliefs, just like opening a blind box.

If lucky, they would join a decent club, taking up the responsibility of upholding justice and fighting evil, becoming a positive character;

If unlucky, they would worship a god who tortured believers for pleasure. There would be sacrifice quotas every month and year, suffering themselves and becoming minions of the evil god who everyone despised.

Digressing, let's return to the magic seed.

Monica shared her magic with Wayne, using water to lead water, awakening magic with magic, allowing Wayne to skip the initial stage of meditation.

In the future, Wayne would still need to meditate persistently to enhance his magic. However, going from 0 to 1 was the most difficult part, and skipping this stage could save a lot of time and energy.

Success was fifty-fifty. Everyone had the potential to become a magician, but not every attempt at leading water with water would succeed.

"So, if this attempt fails, don't be discouraged. Try more times, and you will eventually succeed."

In theory, Monica didn't need to guide Wayne to become a magician. If everything went smoothly this time, the curse on Wayne could be completely lifted, and it only needed to replenish Wayne's magic for a short time to keep his soul from starving.

The reason why so much effort was expended, planting seeds and giving lectures, was purely for Wayne himself.

As a follower of the Moonlight Goddess, Monica was hostile to the Goddess of Death and the Goddess of Darkness. Intercepting Wayne, who was targeted by the Death Walker, not only thwarted the opponent's plan but also brought a potential force to their side.

Winning twice was a win-win!

It should be noted here that Monica's faith was in the Moonlight Goddess, while Veronica and William's faith were not. The former was a follower of the Nature Goddess, and the latter offered their faith to the Sun Goddess.

Nature, Sun, Moonlight vs. Death, Darkness - the struggle between the five goddesses could be traced back thousands of years.

Wayne remained silent throughout, listening to Monica's lecture with his eyes closed. Following the little tricks she pointed out, he explored the existence of his own magic.

The all-nighter wasn't in vain, and he soon found his own magic. As a beginner, he couldn't describe magic in the professional terms of the magic field. In his understanding, magic was the product of the close connection between essence, energy, and spirit, and...

The gods held the dominant position.

Gods referred to the heart, thoughts, and spiritual power. Only this wisdom crystallized between the material and the energy, born from the body, could trigger magic and leverage the world under the constraints of rules.

Wayne sensed a lot and also saw his own magic. It was pure white, but it was very different from Monica's magic seed. One was rendered white, and the other was the original white.

At the moment when magic was excavated from Wayne's body, the magic seed left by Monica was shattered on the spot, attracting the attention of Veronica and William, and leaving Monica dumbfounded.

The cat was shocked.jpg

It didn't hold much hope, just wanting Wayne to get familiar with the magic seed for the first time. After solving the curse, there would be plenty of opportunities. But never did it expect...

For a moment, Monica's mind was filled with countless thoughts. It thought of many things, feeling lucky to have such good luck. A spur-of-the-moment interception not only disrupted the Death's followers' recruitment plan but also brought a potential follower to its own Goddess.

If possible, Wayne might become a god's devotee!

In the passenger seat, William swallowed his saliva, stuffing a handful of chocolates into his mouth to calm his nerves.

Veronica, who was driving, wasn't in a good mood either. Distracted, she didn't notice the car veering off the road, and the tires ran over a large pothole.

With a loud bang, Monica in the backseat flew into the air.

In mid-air, the black cat still looked puzzled.

So fast, could he really be a genius?

"Ah, Veronica, watch the road, watch the road!"

In William's scream, Wayne reached out to catch the falling Monica, took the opportunity to give her a few strokes while the cat wasn't paying attention, and then pretended nothing had happened and put her back in place.

The touch was really good. Next time, try flicking the little bell.

Wayne looked down and sensed his still weak magic, glanced at the book of greed, and couldn't help but smirk.

Veronica apologized softly, glanced at the rearview mirror, and saw the big liar writing in his diary, chuckling at his crotch.

Oh no, I was actually fooled by this kind of guy!

Veronica shook her head, poured cold water, and said, "Don't be too happy too soon. Magic is very dangerous. From entry to psychological counseling, from eating to taking medicine, from school to the cemetery, there are many magicians who go crazy every year. I hope you're not the next one."

Wayne: (⊙_⊙)

Learning magic will drive you crazy, what kind of logic is that?
