The atmosphere around the gate grew surreal.
The guard atop the gate raised his left wrist, fiddling with something unseen. His movements were precise, almost mechanical, as if he were interacting with an invisible device.
After a moment, he stopped, a sneer forming on his lips.
"Game-addicted bastards," he muttered, with his voice carrying a mix of frustration and amusement to it.
"They never rest, always hunting for cores so their families can play too. Bastards! You all make me sick, reminding me how single I am!"
His playful cursing broke the eerie silence, leaving the carriage's occupants even more bewildered.
The young lady exchanged a glance with her sinister companion, her confusion matching his curiosity.
The guard's eyes shifted back to the carriage, his gaze intense. He raised his wrist again, typing something with quick, practiced motions. His demeanor softened as he read the reply.
