Power System

In the continent of Rostifr there is one power system that dictates your life and it's called Buffs.

Every person has buffs. Everyone is naturally gifted two, one is based on your close ties like family and friends, the other is based on your 'destiny'(or at least that is what is commonly believed).

On many occasions people can develop Buffs due to their mentality or desire, these manifest usually as a third Buff.

And in very few recorded cases a forth buff can be attained though it is unknown what the cause is.

Buffs can be split into two categories, Positive Buffs and Negative Buffs.

Positive Buffs consist of a primary trait with the addition of a secondary but weaker one. The secondary trait is usually related in someways to the primary trait, for example a primary trait of Light magic with a secondary trait of Dark magic resistance.

Negative Buffs consist of two parts similar to their positive counterparts. These two parts are the trait and the curse. The trait is similar to the primary trait of a positive buff though usually it is slightly stronger for the negative buff. The curse is a hex that effects the user in a random negative way, curses can range from random effects like being only able to see in shades of red or a death sentence like becoming unable to breathe.

When it comes to the effect of buffs on ones social status it is relatively simple, negative buffs are often ridiculed or ignored while positive buffs are praised and nurtured.

Subcategories of Buffs:

Traits:

Enhancements - a buff that strengthens an existing property of a person, eg. Speed.

Magic - a buff that enables the use of magics of specific affinities defined by the trait, eg. Fire magic.

Resistances - a buff that grants resistance towards a specific types of 'damage' defined by the trait, eg. Fire resistance.

Immunities - a buff that grants immunity to a specific type of 'damage' defined by the trait, eg. Fire immunity.

Skills - a buff that grant an ability or technique, eg. Swordsmanship.

Curses:

Restrictions - a curse that places a limit to something of the user, eg. Stiffness(flexibility reduction).

Commandments - a curse that forces a habit, eg. You wink instead of blinking.

Vulnerabilities - a curse that weakens the user against something, eg. vulnerability to Fire.

And each of these subcategories are then split into: Low, Medium, High, Great, Unique and Master rank depending on their strength. These ranks can be increased a little through training.
