Chapter 4 - IV - Information Review

Now now now, let us review the contract's terms and conditions and see what is good and bad for us.

First off, this contract is a golden ticket, you hear? A whole lotta abilities, like some kind of supernatural steroid shot right to the veins. Physical strength, durability, speed - all that swag.

And get this, each contract holder will be gifted one unique power too, based on our subconscious and ego. Some kinda spirit manifestation, I guess. Can't wait to see what's hiding' in the dark corners of my naughty brain, just waiting' to be unleashed.

But the real kicker is the activation. At 3 AM, when the Carrington event lights up the sky with its beautiful hellfire auroras, or sun flares. That's when the real show begins, when our powers will be activated, like a baptism really. Except that instead of water we will be baptized by the sun flares.

Gonna be one hell of a transformation, I can just feel it.

Now, this contract we each got our hands on? That's our lifeline, and our weakness. You lose that sucker, and you might as well dig your own grave. 'Cause if that contract's torn by the hands of another contract holder, the big boss Earl himself will come knocking, ready to collect what's his, your body, the torn contract and perhaps even your soul if such a thing exists.

Game over.

Fact is, we contract holders, we're a special breed. Immune to normal human killing methods, my friend. But don't think that means we're invincible - we can still get heavily injured, which would drag us into some sort of regenerative coma.

Just takes a critical enough injury to do the trick. Still, can't be killed, not by any mortal means.

The contract itself? That's the real fortress, impenetrable to all but one thing - like I said before, the evil grasp of another contract holder.

If you tear someone's contract, you will be marked like a killer of their own kin, your hands will be stained with the red ink of the contract. An ink that cannot be washed, a proof to your sins as killer.

Oh and by the way, we all have our little identifiers too. Latin numerals of the major arcana tarot card that represents us, tattooed onto our flesh. That's our page number in the Earls Codex.

And heterochromia - mismatched eyes, they single us out from the crowd. But don't get it wrong, not everyone with those characteristics is one of us.

One power per person, that's the rule. You try to get greedy, sign another contract with another entity, and old Earl man will know. And trust me, I feel like no one should fuck with him because beneath that noble appearance lies a fiend that has no mercy.

Now that I think of it, it means that others contractors do exist, hmmm...

But hey, at least we ain't gonna be alone in this journey, and that is because of The Contract Holders Magnetism. These contracts, they got a way of bringing us together, like moths to a flame. Bound by unseen strings, our destinies intertwined, call fate or whatever.

Finally, entertainment of the Earl is the highest priority. he is just waiting' to see how this whole cosmic play is gonna unfold, with us contract holders as the stars of the show. So dance, puppets, dance.

This means that any contract holder should prioritize protecting their contract by any means possible because if someone steals your contract... Well, you will be their little bitch, you will do as they say or they'll just tear your contract and you will decay like shit.

Anyway, turns out I am identified by the number I page, The Magician tarot card. I am pretty sure, it holds a deep meaning that symbolizes who I am and will affect the concept of the ability that I will acquire at 3 AM.

The Magician tarot cards' key meanings are Power, influence, willpower, resourcefulness, skill, ability, logic, intellect, concentration, and psychic powers.

The reversed cards' key meanings are Manipulation, greed, unused ability, untrustworthiness, trickery, conniving, cunning, and lack of mental clarity.

They simultaneously define me like yin and yang.

I will certainly acquire some psychic powers, maybe the control over elements? Telekinesis? Pfft, I don't know but it will definitely be a scary ability...

I must be admired but feared at the same time.

All I can say is that I cannot wait to exploit everyone's mind and make them do as I please, it will be a challenge, which something that I very much enjoy. A challenge is a competition, and I am a very competitive person.

I will become the embodiment of fear.

After all, What is a God, without words to fear him?
