Playdough explained:
"To study the language of the Divine Kingdom is to be devout. Sincerity is what makes it work."
"The language of... the Divine Kingdom?"
"Exactly, our village chief learned it and then taught us," Playdough said, "You might not know this, but we didn't have a language before, we couldn't speak at all, and could only make simple exchanges. It was the village chief who taught us to speak."
"So, that's why he's so respected?" Jiang Lu mused.
It turned out he wasn't brainwashing or mind-controlling anyone. Although having a language might seem common, if these people had previously been unable to speak or communicate, and the village chief had taught them how, it seemed reasonable that he would be treated this way.
However, upon hearing this, Playdough contradicted, "It's not just that. The village chief always seems to know a lot of things. In our eyes, he's omnipotent; there's nothing he can't do."
