The Elf Tribe's biggest mistake was using prophecy on Amberser.
Not only did it alert Amberser to their little tricks, but more importantly, Queen Katherin infused her own magic into the Wheel of Fate to stop him.
For a mage skilled in prophecy, this was basically like stripping naked and delivering oneself to the enemy.
Using Queen Katherin's magic as an anchor, Amberser could easily "see" everything in the past, as it was unchangeable, thus simpler to view than predicting the future.
