Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Wishful Abacus

Big sister-in-law Mrs. Zhang stood at the side with a dark face, seeing that the three siblings from Su Yunjin's maternal family had all come, it wasn't good to continue staying and looking for trouble with Su Yunjin and her husband, Gu Ya.

Su Ningxiu and Su Muze both looked at Su Yunjin with concerned faces. Mrs. Zhang snorted coldly and even spat on the ground, "Pah!" Did the Su Family really treasure Su Yunjin, that loss-making good-for-nothing?

Disdainful of the care Su Yunjin's elder brother and second sister showed her, she huffed and, while Su Yunjin and the others weren't paying attention, the big sister-in-law Mrs. Zhang slipped out of the room.

"Exactly, exactly! Little sister, at last big brother and parents have managed to borrow some silver for you." Su Muze also chimed in. Just as he reached the doorway, Mrs. Zhang, upon hearing Su Ningxiu's words, realized that the Su Family had brought silver for Su Yunjin. She hesitated, her eyes lighting up with greed.

Silver?

The Su Family actually brought silver for Su Yunjin?

That's great!

It seems the Su Family's visit isn't without benefits after all!

Mrs. Zhang was secretly plotting over that silver.

She even felt Su Yunjin should hand over all the silver given by the Su Family to the Gu Family to help with household expenses!

In this half month alone, not to mention other expenses, just Su Yunjin herself had cost the Su Family quite a bit of silver for medical treatment and medicine. She had spent so much of the Gu Family's silver, now that the Su Family had sent some, wasn't it only right that all the silver should go to the Gu Family?

Mrs. Zhang glanced back into the room; Su Yunjin's elder brother and second sister were there, so it wasn't appropriate for her to go over right now. She would wait until Su Yunjin's elder brother and second sister had left before making her move.

Mrs. Zhang's plans were clanging away like bells!

She was just waiting for the Su Family members to leave to ask for the money.

Su Ningxiu spoke while taking out a bundle of money from her bosom, wrapped in an old, worn cloth, covered in two or three layers, obviously packed with great care and precision. Su Ningxiu unwrapped the cloth layer by layer until finally, half a string of coins and a few pieces of broken silver appeared.

"Little sister, look how much money big brother and mother have managed to scrape together! With this money, your illness can be treated by a doctor."

Su Ningxiu took out the money wrapped in the cloth and placed it all in Su Yunjin's palm, "Little sister, keep this silver safe!"

Su Yunjin looked at the silver placed in her hand by Su Ningxiu, with no intention of accepting it. This silver was all borrowed by her parents and siblings; how could she take it?

Now her health was no longer in jeopardy! She just needed to rest for a couple of days to fully recover. She had no need for the silver that her elder brother and second sister had brought.

Returning the silver to her elder brother and second sister, Su Yunjin said, "Elder brother, second sister, don't worry! I am truly alright now, the doctor came to see and said that I'm already recovered."

Fearing that her elder brother and second sister wouldn't believe her, Su Yunjin turned to Gu Ya, who was standing to the side, and pointed at him, "If you don't believe what I'm saying, elder brother, second sister, you can ask him. He heard what the doctor said too."

For a moment, everyone in the room turned their gaze towards Gu Ya, including Su Xiaobao, "Sister, I just knew you wouldn't be in any trouble. They said sister had drowned to death, and I beat them up for that!" Su Xiaobao continued, balling up his little fists, still looking angry.

The Su Family members had spread the rumor that Su Yunjin had drowned and died. Su Yunjin's step-grandsons Dazhuang and Huniu, the sons of her step-grandmother, went around claiming Su Yunjin had drowned.

These two children were used to bullying Su Xiaobao and even deliberately spoke about it in front of Su Xiaobao who, surprisingly, broke their usual pattern and fought back.

Su Xiaobao fought fiercely, and Dazhuang and Huniu, being pampered and spoiled, were no match for him. In the end, both children had been beaten by Su Xiaobao until they were covered in bruises.
