Lian Xinying had no idea what Yan's mother was thinking and assumed she wanted the engagement ring back because it was too expensive.
She was struggling internally.
That ring had been given to her by Yan Ye; even if she had to return it, it should be returned directly to him.
"Okay, but I would like to personally give it back to Yan Ye. You can get it from him later," Lian Xinying replied readily, yet Yan's mother was far from satisfied.
"If you let Yan Ye know that I'm asking for the ring back, you'll be seen as driving a wedge between mother and son! I just don't want my son working so hard to earn money, only for it to be spent on you! Return the ring to me now, and if I think you're sensible, maybe I'll be kinder to you in the future."
Yan's mother had found out that Yan Ye had engagements tonight and would likely be home late, which was why she came over.
From her understanding of Lian Xinying's past behavior, Yan's mother expected that she wouldn't refuse such a request.
