Zhao Ziyin, through her own hard work, had managed to get into university, a feat not easily accomplished considering her family's lack of funds. She relied on scholarships and part-time work to support her education for two years.
However, to study abroad, good grades were only part of the equation; having money was even more important. Zhao Ziyin's academic performance was among the top in her faculty. But her family could barely afford to send her to university, let alone abroad. Despite her desire to take part in an exchange program, she was without means to do so.
