Chapter 11 - The shadow of war

The night was alive with the crackle of flames and the cries of the wounded as the red dragon soldiers made camp on the outskirts of Thornhaven territory. The battle had taken its toll, but there was no time for rest. With the enemy defeated, it was now more important than ever to gather intelligence and assess the situation.

Commander Aric gathered his soldiers around him, the flickering light of the campfire casting long shadows across their weary faces.

"We may have won the battle," he began, his voice grave, "but the war is far from over. Thornhaven will not take kindly to our incursion into their territory, and we must be prepared for whatever retaliation they may have planned."

The soldiers nodded in agreement, their eyes reflecting the weariness of their bodies but the determination of their spirits.

"Our first priority is to gather as much information as we can about Thornhaven's military strength and their plans for retaliation," Aric continued. "We need to know their every move before they make it."

With that, the red dragon soldiers set out into the night, their senses sharp and their minds focused. They moved silently through the darkness, their silver armor gleaming faintly in the moonlight.

As they journeyed deeper into Thornhaven territory, they encountered the aftermath of the battle: scorched earth, burnt-out buildings, and the occasional wounded soldier left behind by retreating Thornhaven forces. The sight only served to steel their resolve, reminding them of the importance of their mission.

Hours passed, the night slowly giving way to the first light of dawn, and still the red dragon soldiers pressed on. They moved with the stealth of shadows, their movements silent and precise as they scoured the countryside for any sign of enemy activity.

And then, just as the sun began to rise on the horizon, they spotted it: a vast encampment nestled in a valley below, the banners of Thornhaven fluttering in the morning breeze.

"There," Aric said, his voice barely above a whisper as he pointed towards the encampment. "That's our target."

The red dragon soldiers nodded in understanding, their eyes fixed on the enemy encampment below. They knew that gathering intelligence would not be easy, but they were prepared to do whatever it took to ensure the safety of their kingdom.

With Commander Aric leading the way, they descended into the valley below, their movements swift and silent as they approached the Thornhaven encampment. They moved like ghosts, slipping past the enemy's perimeter defenses without so much as a whisper.

As they neared the heart of the encampment, they could hear the sound of voices and the clinking of armor. The Thornhaven soldiers were busy preparing for what looked to be a massive assault.

"We need to get closer," Aric whispered, his voice barely audible above the din of the encampment. "We need to know their plans."

The red dragon soldiers nodded in agreement, their eyes fixed on the encampment below. With practiced precision, they crept closer, their hearts pounding in their chests as they listened intently to the conversations unfolding below.

It soon became clear that Thornhaven was planning a full-scale assault on the kingdom of Roshar. They had amassed a vast army, their numbers far greater than anything Roshar had ever faced before.

"We need to warn the king," Aric said, his voice grim. "If we don't act fast, Thornhaven will overwhelm us before we even have a chance to defend ourselves."

With that, the red dragon soldiers retreated from the encampment, their minds racing with the urgency of their mission. They knew that time was of the essence, and they would stop at nothing to ensure the safety of their kingdom.

As they made their way back to Roshar, their minds filled with the grim reality of the situation. The kingdom was on the brink of war, and it was up to them to prevent it.

When they finally returned to the kingdom, they wasted no time in seeking an audience with King Auron. They recounted everything they had seen and heard in Thornhaven territory, their words painting a grim picture of the enemy's strength and their plans for attack.

King Auron listened in silence, his expression grave as he absorbed the gravity of the situation. He knew that war was inevitable, but with the information provided by the red dragon soldiers, they would at least have a fighting chance.

"Thank you, Commander Aric," the king said, his voice heavy with emotion. "You and your soldiers have done a great service to the kingdom. Now, we must prepare for war."

And so, with the threat of Thornhaven looming on the horizon, the kingdom of Roshar began to mobilize its forces. Every man, woman, and child prepared for battle, knowing that the future of their kingdom depended on their courage and determination.

The red dragon soldiers stood at the forefront of the kingdom's defenses, their resolve unwavering as they prepared to face the enemy head-on. They knew that the road ahead would be long and difficult, but they were prepared to do whatever it took to protect their home.

As the days passed and tension mounted, the kingdom of Roshar braced itself for the inevitable conflict. The air was heavy with anticipation, the streets filled with the sound of marching feet and the clang of swords.

And then, one fateful day, the enemy arrived.

The Thornhaven army descended upon Roshar like a swarm of locusts, their numbers overwhelming as they laid siege to the kingdom. The battle that followed was fierce and brutal, the clash of steel against steel echoing through the streets as Roshar fought desperately to defend itself.

But the red dragon soldiers were ready.

Led by Commander Aric, they fought with courage and determination, their swords flashing in the sunlight as they met the enemy head-on. They were outnumbered, but they refused to back down, their loyalty to their kingdom unwavering as they pushed back against the tide of Thornhaven soldiers.

For days, the battle raged on, each side refusing to give an inch as they fought for control of the kingdom. The streets ran red with blood, the air thick with the sounds of war.

But in the end, it was the red dragon soldiers who emerged victorious.

Through sheer determination and unwavering courage, they pushed the Thornhaven army back, driving them from the kingdom and securing Roshar's safety once and for all.

As the last of the enemy forces retreated into the distance, the people of Roshar cheered, their hearts filled with gratitude for the brave soldiers who had saved their kingdom from destruction.
