In that house surrounded by plants and flowers, which had once belonged to Hector's parents and where he and Clara now lived, the two dined, and Clara watched her lover as he finished the previously enchanted meal.
"What it was?" he asked. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"There are certain things I need to tell you, Hector."
After saying that, Clara ended the spell that made her look like an ordinary human so Hector could see her for the first time as she actually was.
His reaction upon seeing the translucent pair of wings was to jump up from the table.
"What is that? What witchcraft is this?" He shook his head nervously. "What is happening to my eyes?"
Shortly after, Hector fell, and his sight darkened. He lay unconscious for hours, and when he came to, he had his head resting on Clara's knees.
She was stroking his hair and, at the same time, telling him her whole story through telepathy.
"Do you understand now?" she asked.
"Yes..." he replied dryly.
After remaining silent for several minutes, he rose and then spoke:
"Are you telling me I'm not going to die?" And that? Like I'd become a vampire, but without the curse of needing to feed on blood?"
"It's a simple way of looking at things..." she said, smiling and happy as ever.
But Hector wasn't smiling.
"And what happens now? Will you take me to your world?"
Clara was surprised by the coldness in his voice, and in fact, he had touched on a point that, until then, she had not considered.
"I think we can continue our wedding preparations normally for now."
He was staring straight at her with a razor-sharp gaze.
"Until when? Until my parents died? Or until there's no one else who matters to me here?"
"Hector?"
"Don't you think you could have asked my opinion, Clara?"
"I... I'm sorry. I don't know what to say."
"But I know! I thank you for the gift from the other world, but I need to tell you that whatever I felt for you when you were only my perfect bride, that feeling is no longer part of me."
"What do you mean by that, Hector?"
"Simple! I don't love you anymore."
Clara could almost hear the mediator's words of warning echoing in her head. In disbelief, she watched Hector leave the house and never looked back.
She remained motionless and shaken for some time, but when she wanted to run after him, a figure materialized in front of her.
"Goodnight, my dear! I came to collect my payment."
"You wretched witch! You tricked me!"
"How did I deceive you? The human is like us now."
"But he doesn't love me anymore!"
"That's true. He doesn't love you anymore, he doesn't love himself, he doesn't love anyone. He has completely lost the ability to love."
"You miserable... You have to undo this!"
"It can't be undone." said Jade, without hiding a sadistic laugh and unceremoniously collecting the tear of suffering that flowed from one of Clara's eyes.
"There has to be a way!" insisted the fairy.
Jade shook her head slowly and then disappeared.
After that, Clara never found her again.
